Some in Alabama's Hispanic community are encouraging Spanish-speaking residents and their supporters to skip work this week to protest the state's tough new law against illegal immigration.
Facebook users have formed groups and events urging people to skip work on Wednesday and Thursday. They're also asking people to only shop at businesses that are part of the Hispanic community. Hundreds have said they're participating.
A Spanish-language radio station in metro Birmingham is helping promote the campaign.

The whole "Day without a Mexican" thing has already been tried and has failed miserably. Good luck to everyone who wishes to waste their time on this in Alabama.

I'd be disappointed if I had to go a day without my Mexican.
She cuts the grass just how I like it.

I was amazed to read that the latest census shows Alabama having only 2.9% of the population being foreign born. The average for the other states was 12.4% foreign born.

Clearly you've never been to Alabama before. It's really not one of those places where foreigners strive to get to in America.

Why would any tax-paying citizen of the US object to enforcing laws against criminals? I STILL don't get it.

As has been proven time after time Gunny, most of those who object to enforcing immigration laws in fact do NO pay any taxes.

This one swings both ways. The GOP is as quick to not touch the issue as the Dems are. Neither party is willing to alienate the Hispanic vote.
