View Full Version : Jesus was a Socialist by nature

I'm an atheist. Jesus may or may not have been an actual person in m view, but if he was, I think he would have been characterized as a socialist by the right wing today. Here's my reasoning, from Hugh Blumenfeld's song "Long-Haired, Radical, Socialist Jew."
Jesus - The long-haired radical socialist Jew
Well Jesus was a homeless lad,
with an unwed mother and an absent dad,
and I really don’t think he would have gotten that far,
if Newt, Pat, and Jesse had followed that star.
So let’s all sing out praises to
that long-haired radical socialist Jew.
When Jesus taught the people, he
would never charge a tuition fee.
He just took some fishes and some bread
and made up free school lunches instead.
So let’s all sing out praises to
that long-haired radical socialist Jew.
He healed the blind and made them see;
he brought the lame folks to their feet.
Rich and poor, anytime, anywhere,
just pioneering that free healthcare!
So let’s all sing out praises to
that long-haired radical socialist Jew.
Jesus hung with a low-life crowd
but those working stiffs sure did him proud
some were murderers, thieves, and whores
but at least they didn’t do it as legislators
So let’s all sing out praises to
that long-haired radical socialist Jew.
Jesus lived in troubled times—
the religious right was on the rise.
Oh what could have saved him from his terrible fate?
Separation of church and state.
So let’s all sing out praises to
that long-haired radical socialist Jew.
Sometimes I fall into deep despair
when I hear those hypocrites on the air.
But every Sunday gives me hope
when pastor, deacon, priest, and pope
are all singing out their praises to
some long-haired radical socialist Jew.
They’re singing out their praises to…oooo…oooo…
some long-haired radical socialist Jew.

And I'm sure fj1200 has been waiting for this post. And dreading it.
And btw, I'm not being serious. I think Jesus would've been apolitical if he was real, but it's an amusing song in my view. I first heard it live at a blues/folk venue in Amish country. The crowd didn't know how to reacte. The Notre Dame crowd laughed their butts off but the more Mennonite part of the crowd seemed confused by it all.

Jesus wanted Big Government to take people's earnings away from them? And oversee its "redistribution"?
I must have missed that Biblical passage.
Or perhaps you missed something else.

Actually, Jesus would be very left wing. Jesus advocated opposing the current system. He had very radical ideas for his time.
Plus, Jesus preached love for all people, regardless of who they were and what they looked like. Which is obviously not right wing at all.

.What's bigger than god? What's the government do if you refuse, throw you in jail? God throws you in hell. And nobody gets to elect the tyrant.

So you agree with me that Jesus did NOT want Big Govt to take people's earnings away and oversee its "redistribution".
That was easy.
As I maintained, He was in no way a socialist. In fact, He preached that people had to do their own charity, help each other, etc.
He was the very antithesis of a socialist.

Let's assume Jesus was an actual person. How would you assume to know what he thought? Did he write lots on Austrian econmomics before he died and rose again? Or (more likely) do you just make shit up to fit your narrow view of the world? I know what I'd vote for.

Christ taught that people should look at their own faults before criticizing others. Perhaps you ought to take a hint.

BTW... I don't appreciate the joke.. If I can get flamed for hijacking a thread, the least I could expect is that non-believers respect other people's beliefs... "Jesus was a radical long haired Jew"... that's pretty poor taste.

Well fuck, why shouldn't believers respect nonbelievers? Folks like you talk about your religion all the time. That disrespects someone like me that thinks religion is nonsence. Shut up in public. Keep it in church, fuckface.
I don't believe in the son of God or God itself but I find the mischaracterization of Jesus to be a RW fanatic offensive.

You deny that his views were a radical departure from the status quo?
You deny he had long hair?
You deny he was a Jew?
Let me guess, Jesus was a Christian Conservative skinhead Republican who hated gays, niggers, forriners, terrists, freeloaders, and hippies? He had a job and worked hard and saved his money. He didn't believe in socialism and told all those parasites to go buy their own bread and fishes and stop expecting someone else to do for them...
