What are your favorite cars part Deux

What kind? I have a strong preference for short wheelbase cars since I raced karts for years. My two favorites are light and fast. Their aethetics are, um, questionable, but that's ok with me. I've gotten rides (but not driven both)

Renault R5 Turbo II (a Renault Le Car converted to mid engine and could be had with hp from 150 to 350 hp. A rally race car of the 80s.

My other favorite is the Lotus Seven and its modern clones. They are anywhere from 1200 to 1500 lbs, stand about knee high (you can drag your knuckles on the ground when seated and strapped in), and can be had with from 100 hp to 500 hp if you are so inclined. Originally designed in the late 50s by Colin Chapman of Lotus fame and kept going by all the various Houses of Holy of lightweight performance.

I had a ride in a 300 hp version of the Seven. The driver got the car up to 100 mph in half a city block. No windshield. My glasses nearly blew off my face (I grabbed them as they went over my hair). The driver did that amidst rush hour traffic on a downtown main road. I was equally torn between terror and sheer childish glee at the acceleration of the car, and I didn't know whether to punch him or kiss him. But I did cackle like a madman.

I completely agree, Lotus made some purpose built machines, unrivaled in handling and performance (barring open wheel of course). Price being no object, I'd of course go with the most expensive model, assuring myself the experience few others could; but let's be honest, most any Lotus is gonna be fun to drive.If I was to realistically buy a new car, just for fun, I'd likely lean towards the Lotus Exige.

Moving up the line, price-wise as well as class, I'd probably go Italian, Maserati or Ferrari.
They're looks don't do the driving of them justice. Had the extreme pleasure of driving the two models below.

I am a muscle car fan. Love them, all makes all models, but especially first gen mustangs. It wasn't until the second generation in 67 that you could start getting serious horsepower in the Mustangs, but that first body style is just perfect whether in convertible, coupe, or fastback.

I never understood muscle cars until I moved to Indiana. Every f*cking turn is a 90 degree turn at the end of straight with a stop sign. It's why I took up racing karts. Oh, I also put a few cars into cornfields in Michigan.

My best friend in high school inherited a 67 GTO from his grandma in his senior year. Gorgeous car.

My GF in my senior year in HSchool drove a 65 Mustang Coupe that she rebuilt with her dad and twin Norwegian sister. They screwed up the automatic transmission rebuild and somehow got the shift mechanism so messed up that Drive actually meant they were driving in locked 2nd gear for two years before they figured out that ain't right.

Nice bike, old man. I liked the FZ350 (2-stroke) from that era. However, after having lived in a hospital in traction for a month in 1982 due to a poorly riden Honda CL350, I deemed it wise to leave motorcyles alone. More BALLS than brains for me on bikes.

Until then, I REALLY love my mazda. I can't be sure, but it's probably the best-driving car I've driven (including Cayman S, various Bimmers, etc).

All you have to do is find the house with the signs against hydrofracking in the front yard, the gay pride flag hung on the front porch, the tie dyed window curtains, and the Che Guevara posters in the living room... ask for the vegan lady that practices Wicca and braids her armpit hairs, and she'll show you just what I mean. (easy to find except I've just described about 99% of the the houses in Ithaca)

I was at an autocross where a restored TransAm competition car competed several years ago. It was a 70s Plymouth Barracuda and was said to have 500 to 600 hp. I just know that when that thing was on track and I was working the track/cones, I NEVER took my eyes off of it.

It crushed so many cones and spun so much the beast scared the hell out of me. I made sure I was always in position to RUN. Turns out there was no need. Driven by a husband and wife, they both spent the first few runs pushing the car, finding the track limits, bashing cones, but the last runs by both were superlative and deft. The 100 lb woman beat her beefy husband by a few hundredths of a second. He was NOT a happy man. :laugh:

They were both awesome drivers. When they decided to finally go fo a smooth run with that beast they both pulled it off beautifully. I think that car actually had the fastest raw time of the day. That ain't easy in a high hp, antiquated beast like that. HP doesn't usually rule at an autocross and in that car I believe it actually hurt.
