As seen in our recent poll (http://www.debatepolicy.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=42) - the majority of the folks who voted feel Porn decays society.

If that's the case, should it be outlawed?

I thought we were against nanny government.

Seriously, plenty of things that aren't socially beneficial are still legal. Tobacco, for example.

Take my word for it. If you took all the porn from the soldiers in Iraq, not to mention the military--you would have a full scale rebellion.

Why would I take your word for it?

No, it wuld just create a huge black market and you can't really stop people from drawing or taking pictures. You'd also have to define porn first. What one may think is porn another may call art.

1. You will first have to arrive at a consensual definition of pornography.

2. Enforcement of any anti-porn laws would cost too much money. Do you really want any of your family members to become convicted felons for filming themselves having sex, even if for their own private use?

3. If successful, what might you target next...erotic stories? Maybe all books with references to nudity.

I'm for protecting the public from harm, but there comes a point where the government becomes controlling rather than protective. People should have a right to screw up their own lives, to an extent, if they wish it.

Porn involving consenting adults (both in the production and the distribution), may not be "good", but banning would be even more "evil".

Analogies can be made to things like alcohol, cigarettes, guns, mountain climbing, etc, etc, etc.

Nope. I'm against the use of porn, but I don't think it should be illegal.

No. Simply because trying to determine what IS porn would probably be something people would never agree on, and, it's the old "slippery slope". If you ban porn, what's next? Swearing?

If they ban porn, what will some of you do for reading material? :poke:

lol that ain't what i meant. yah it is up the parents 90%, i meant the more ones where the kid is looking for something and misspells and what not. right there he found something. i am talking about the accidental ones that start kids on it that weren't looking for it anyway.

I imagine it would be a whole lot easier to block .xxx sites than to try to filter based on content and keywords.

I agree guys..I was joking..xxx for the nude stuff porn or not, is a good idea.

Now we face the same question we had on the poll here about porn.
What is it and what gets the .xxx? I'd say, because it's the net everything that say, shows more skin than clothes gets the X.

Work for you?

Rating systems are already in place for TV and movies...no need to reinvent the wheel. Any content Rated-R or higher gets the .xxx

would you feel better having your mom look over your shoulder while looking at a painting or statue, something that shows skill? or while some blech blonde is getting violated? the reason behind is a big thing. there is stuff that shows the human body and yes there might be some nudity in it, oh well. then there is stuff that is meant to show the body and such for nothing other than sexual reasons.

I think it should be. Much like it was before libs started expanding "Free speech" to mean pornography should be allowed in every corner drugstore.

Regardless, I think we have an obligation to avoid it.

Libs did that? I get so confused. Who founded the PMRC, again? Who fought against it?

(BTW, I disagree with the PMRC...)

Honestly, I don't want to see any Gov regulation on the net. If they get their finger in anything nothing will ever be the same, it will go down hill fast.
