Is this a cultural thing? Was that snake de-venomized or whatever the word would be? WHY would these people just watch this and not get the baby out of there?

I've seen this and I can't understand it. The snake must have had its poison sacs and fangs removed because the baby isn't crying or anything. If the snake was dangerous, the baby would've died almost instantaneously I think.

Yup Hag is right, the baby would have been dead in a few seconds after being bitten by a cobra that large.

I understand the snake charmers remove the fangs from their snakes.
Maybe this is like the family dog, sorta like the organ grinders monkey? So, yeah cultural I guess, but sick and disturbing to me.
