Americans must decide if, in the name of homeland security, they are willing to allow TSA operatives to storm public places in their communities with no warning, pat them down, and search their bags. And they better decide quickly.

Bus travelers were shocked when jackbooted TSA officers in black SWAT-style uniforms descended unannounced upon the Tampa Greyhound bus station in April with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and federal bureaucrats in tow.

A news report by ABC Action News in Tampa showed passengers being given the signature pat downs Americans are used to watching the Transportation Security Administration screeners perform at our airports. Canine teams sniffed their bags and the buses they rode. Immigration officials hunted for large sums of cash as part of an anti-smuggling initiative.

The TSA clearly intends for these out-of-nowhere swarms by its officers at community transit centers, bus stops and public events to become a routine and accepted part of American life.

The TSA has conducted 8,000 of these security sweeps across the country in the past year alone, TSA chief John Pistole told a Senate committee June 14. They are part of its VIPR (Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response) program, which targets public transit related places.

This is scary stuff. VIPR what an appropriate name.

I remember this, Gaffer, and there was something more to it. I don't remember what it was - whether they were looking for someone in particular and had a tip sending them here or if it was a colossal mistake all the way around.

But yeah, this kind of shit needs to stop. I understand and accept the airport thing, but this is going too far.

The tsa is for airport screening only. And even that should be done by private companies. Any tips or reports of individuals can be handled by the local police. There is no need to bring in federal agents that don't even have authority in the area. This is out right fascist brown shirt stuff.

When Mussolini first came to power he used thugs to commit crimes and start riots. His brown shirts were sent in to quell the trouble spots and the people were happy and gave him more power. Same game being played now.

Gaffer C'mon the TSA is here to keep us Safe.

Yes, it's seems a bit softer than Brown Shirts so far, but the vise is tightening. ANd the "VIPERS" will be any where. ready to strike a "terrorist suspect" Like old white ladies and vets with false legs.

It reminds me more of the East German Stasi, Secret Police, travel Permits, Records, spying on the citizens, Suspected enemies of the state taken away for questioning.

We are living in interesting times folks

We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded

Toy Security Wand Lets Kids Play At Being TSA Agents

There's nothing cooler than being a TSA agent for Homeland Security and now the Spy Gear Security Scanner lets kids live out their dreams. It's a handheld security wand whose LED lights flash and an alarm goes off when it detects metal, just like the real thing!

Tipster and parent Bruce, who spotted the box at Toys R' Us while shopping for a birthday present for his son, wrote, "One word: "Unbelievable." We can now teach our kids early to be TSA thugs."

Based on a few user reviews, after you adjust the sensitivity knob, the thing actually can find metal.

But is it fun? Just look at the box! A cheerful child holds his shirt open for the scanning. His other hand is lofted for a high-five. If that doesn't spell fun, you might be a terrorist.

Scouts Train to Fight Terrorists, and More

IMPERIAL, Calif. — Ten minutes into arrant mayhem in this town near the Mexican border, and the gunman, a disgruntled Iraq war veteran, has already taken out two people, one slumped in his desk, the other covered in blood on the floor.

In a training exercise run by Border Patrol agents, Explorer scouts from Visalia, Calif., prepare to storm a “hijacked” bus. More Photos »

The responding officers — eight teenage boys and girls, the youngest 14 — face tripwire, a thin cloud of poisonous gas and loud shots — BAM! BAM! — fired from behind a flimsy wall. They move quickly, pellet guns drawn and masks affixed.

“United States Border Patrol! Put your hands up!” screams one in a voice cracking with adolescent determination as the suspect is subdued.

It is all quite a step up from the square knot.

The Explorers program, a coeducational affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America that began 60 years ago, is training thousands of young people in skills used to confront terrorism, illegal immigration and escalating border violence — an intense ratcheting up of one of the group’s longtime missions to prepare youths for more traditional jobs as police officers and firefighters.

“This is about being a true-blooded American guy and girl,” said A. J. Lowenthal, a sheriff’s deputy here in Imperial County, whose life clock, he says, is set around the Explorers events he helps run. “It fits right in with the honor and bravery of the Boy Scouts.” ...
