A Memorial Day story

Today is my daughter's 10th birthday. So I asked her this morning what she wanted to do for her birthday. A few neighbor kids wanted to put together a surprise party.
Instead, my daughter wanted to go visit my dad's best friend, who served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Last year, he took her to the Memorial Day parade and an event held by Orange County veterans, and that made a big impression on her.
So that is how my daughter is celebrating her birthday today, honoring "the war heroes."
