here's a piece of history I never knew about. an air pumped rifle made in Italy. wound up the hands of Lewis an Clarke. they took one on they're famous expedition. no ram rod, no patch, no gun powder or smoke. just compressed air. technology far ahead of its time. how did this fall thru the cracks of history???

you can buy a beautiful replica. for around 5 grand. note the air valve in the end of the rifle butt which contained the compressed air

the original

operation was simple. the steel balls were stored in barrel chamber. a simple flick of a lever loaded one into the chamber. aim. - fire

The one described as a "replica" doesn't look anything like the other two. An air rifle, perhaps, but the design is completely different.

Where did somebody get the idea it's a "replica"?

Very interesting! This is the first I've ever heard of air rifle technology back then... I always assumed that was something that was developed in the 1950's or 1960's.

Air Rifles have been around for a very long time. I enjoy shooting them and have several that I use for hunting and target shooting. They are extremely accurate! I also have several air pistols. These definitely are NOT the daisy BB gun types.

There is a large variety of ammunition as well with everything from wad cutters to hollow points.
