It would seem that the socialists are in a serious uproar about the reading of the constitution on the floor of the house. So incensed are they that they are trying to claim it will cost 1.1 million to read a document they claim is only relevant due to the interest of the Tea Party. The idiots actually lump the reading of the constitution into comments on items that could be skipped to reduce wastefulness in the capital.

s we reported this morning, House Republicans will kick-start the 112th Congress tomorrow with a spirited recitation of the Constitution, a document whose recent relevance is due largely to the ideological and sartorial interests of the Tea Party. It’s an opening act designed to herald the arrival of a new season of checks, balances, and financial cutbacks. As Politico’s nocturnal prophet Mike Allen reported, House Republicans plan to reduce Congress’s budget by $32.5 million—a savings reaped from cutting “the amount authorized for salaries and expenses of Member, committee, and leadership offices in 2011 and 2012.”

It would seem that in an era of Fiscal Responsibility™, a performative rendition of the Constitution might have been one such eliminated endeavor. For an estimate on just how much the Republicans would have saved if they had decided against the tedious exercise, VF Daily checked with Peter Keating, the co-author of “The Cost of No” and VF.com’s resident expert on Congressional wastefulness.

What kills me is that the house members take the following oath:

"I, (name of Member), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

It is entirely apropos to have the document they swear to "support and defend" read in the house.

Look at what it has cost us for the loonies who have been there and obviously had no knowledge of it.

The real reason the left and the Dems don't want the US Constitution read in Congress is because it may remind them of their purpose. Of more concern to our illustrious politicians is that a public reading of the Constitution in the Congress will remind the American voting public of exactly what the Supreme Law of the Land says. Such a reminder will obviously raise many, many questions regarding just what the heck our politicians have been up to and how far they have strayed from the Constitution.

they probably will refuse to be present during the reading, to protest the constitution, um i mean the reading of the constitution.

The reading of the Constitution should become a standard tradition at the begining of each Congressional session. Every 2 years it should be read to remind everyone why we're here and what keeps us here.

And here is why you are right:

From Vanity Fair:

the Constitution, a document whose recent relevance is due largely to the ideological and sartorial interests of the Tea Party
When liberal hacks start referring to the Constitution as a document with only "recent relevence" because of a minority political interest group, they need to be reminded that the Consitutition is relevent 24/7/365 to every American, especially those serving in government.

can we offset that against what they would have spent if they weren't taking the time to listen to it?....We'll still be millions ahead of the game.......

The leftists do not use the Constitution or any of its provisions or requirements when they make their legislation, so to them it IS a complete waste of time to have it read aloud on the House floor.

Sort of like reciting a bank's hours of operation, requirements for withdrawls etc. to a bank robber. To him, the information in unimportant, irrelevant, and frequently gets in the way of his "work".

Great analogy!

I don't have a problem with them reading it at the start of the session; however I doubt the veracity of the claims it will change anything. I suspect this reading is a gesture which hints at the creation of a House rule that Constitutional authority preface each bill; which could have an impact on new policy. I hope something can be done, cause our country's screwed if we don't do something about escalating debt.

The PR Staff for the Democrat party is attacking and dismissing the notion of laws passed in Congress should be Constitutional
