Anyone got some holiday coming up soon?

At the end of the year, my husband and I are going to take our daughter to Australia. To experience Christmas on the beach and visit my good friend Sharon in Melbourne. And take in the Ashes cricket series.
I believe travel is a wonderful teaching tool. Australia is a wonderful place to visit. Especially in the summer. How many American kids get to see Santa arrive on a surf board? Throw another shrimp on the barbie, mates!

I whole hardly agree, travel don't "Tourist". When ever I travel I make it a point to hang with the locals. Don't be afraid if you can't speak the language, just making an effort 99.99% of the time they will be more than happy to help. Not only that most generally people are proud to share their culture with you. I've been through Europe, Middle East, Egypt, S. America and also in the South Pacific. It's wonderful and it really doesn't cost that much. If you do your planning right a lot of the times it's cheaper than a trip to the typical crap here in the States like Disneyland and what not.

Anyway traveling opens up your mind and gives you a true perspective.

Depends on what your priorities are. I don't know about you, but I am not raising my kid to be stupid. Then again, my kid has educated parents. Unlike some of you who value military indoctrination over practical learning.

I don't have kids, I rent them :lol:

But I do usually take my family with me, my Father, my Nephew's, Niece's and yes they not only enjoy the experience but also gain a very good perspective of life.

I'm absolutely fascinated and in love with the High Andes though and actually I'm making plans to retire there. This is my Shangri-La and my trips there give me the energy to put up with the B.S. here.

I'll be spending Christmas with my mom in Albany, NY, and on the 26th, we'll be going to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Pepsi Arena
