Now, can someone please tell me why the surge was needed to secure Baghdad so the Iraqi Parliment can start to get their government up and running? Can someone also tell me why benchmarks aren't a good thing? How about this big :fu: by the Iraqi government.

Iraqis on Vacation
Monday, April 30, 2007; Page A14

As the mother of an Army Ranger who has just completed a tour in Iraq, I was
stunned to read that the Iraqi parliament was scheduled to take a two-month
recess .
Our soldiers are having their tours extended to 15 months without a single
day off except for a two-week leave. In an ordinary job this would be
grueling, but in combat, with the constant threat of suicide bombings and
improvised explosive devices, it is difficult beyond words.

Our soldiers are shedding their blood to help a country that is a shambles,
and their politicians are taking a two-month vacation! This is a slap in the
face to the soldiers and their families, not to mention to the citizens of
Iraq.

The Iraqi army will no doubt be on the job same as our men and women in arms.

I don't see where the Iraqi govenment deserves a vacation though... :dunno:

War don't take no vacation. Neither should they.

Our government is not happy with this summer vacation the iraqi government is planning for themselves. But I guess they are modeling themselves after our congress. If its that important it can wait till after the recess.

They're modeling their parliament after our own Congress?

I understand when Iraqis go on vacation, one of their preferred destinations is Newark, New Jersey.

They find it tranquil and delightful after Baghdad or Fallujah.

I'd laugh if while they were "on vacation", we pulled out all our troops.

"Hey, if you don't give a fuck, neither do we."

Do you feel the same way when bush takes his? Or is that different because he's a republican?

Agreed. What the hell is a two month vacation going to do? I can understand maybe a few weeks, so as to get back into the community, like congress does, but this? They expect our troops to continue, as you said, with no breaks, but these armchair "warriors" need a break?

Iraq is starting to piss me off.

I have no love for bush, so don't think that question is somehow getting under my skin. Go ahead, bash him all you want.

But as a matter of fact, I don't have any particular love for ANY politician. Some are just worse than others.

Me too. I think we should pull the hell out, let whatever happen happen. And when we get hit again with another 9/11, then go where ever and kick some REAL ass again. Not this police action shit.

You know, I am seriously thinking this. Those guys give a rats ass that Saddam is gone. Whooray, but lets kill the americans. I am not sure though what leaving right now will do. But, I am sick of this muslim attitude that, well, thanks for getting rid of that jerk, but, we will kill you know, because we know you will NOT crack down as hard as Saddam. They are sick.

You know Cocky....that would be funny if it wasn't so sad. We were sold on the surge is needed so that the Iraqi parliament would be safe so that they could actually start governing........and what do they do? This shit stopped making sense long ago.

Is that a rumor, because I haven't read anything about that.
