I'm scrambling to try and make it to Rev. Sharpton's demo, myself. Oh - I hear it happens to be being held close to the Lincoln Memorial. And on the anniversary of King's speech, too? Can you imagine the coincidence??

I hear they might head down to the lincoln memorial. Feel free to join us all there. The more the merrier. It's not a political event. And as long as people aren't violent and rude, it will be great.

Since you guys aren't supposed to bring home-made signs (it's not a political event, after all), there is less likelihood of some divisive statement being thrown out there. And you know, probably it will be a good idea for us to come on over and mingle! And if you were gracious enough to let the Reverend come up to the podium and give his tribute to the troops, that'd be great!

I'll work on getting the word out... Thanks again!

I don't have any control of what happens at the podium. But who knows.

I think this is going to be an interesting event regardless. The Spirit seems to indicate that. Thats the only reason I am going. Im not much of a rally person.

Sarcasm is obviously one of your strengths.

Go to the rally. Listen to what is said, and look around and talk to the different people there.

You may be surprised, especially if you're a fan of NBC, CBS or ABC, to see both parties and people of EVERY race represented.

Have a good time.

He called sharpton a reverend. That's funny and says a lot. sharpton is nothing more than a racist radical. He's probably already got his goons assigned to disrupt Beck's get together. Any violence that takes place will have been orchestrated by sharpton.

Ya know, the way the "good" reverend was talking,it sounds as if he thinks blacks own the civil rights movement. A white guy steps in,peacefully and wants to spread the word and that is unacceptable. I think that many followers of Sharpton and Jackson DON"T want whites to join in cause then there wouldn't be anything to bitch about!!!

Why can't someone besides black leaders speak on the anniversary of King's speech? WHY? Because they have distorted King's message and have turned into their own guilt fest and want it to stay that way. He proved this weekend that he doesn't want anyone to come together.

The side of the political spectrum doesn't matter, i remember thinking the same when H Clinton had a wee cry while sitting in a Cafe (Possibly in New Hampshire?) during the Dem Primaries. Its just weird.

I wasn't aware that we needed to dispute something to celebrate virtue. That's a new concept for me.

I would think that a man who has lost it all and has had to fight to regain it would be the perfect man to recommend honor.

But then again it really doesn't matter who does it. The principles are correct, even if the preacher doesn't live them.

http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/trackitfan/2010/08/packed-crowd-of-over-500000-at-828-glenn-becks-restoring-honor-gathering-at-the-lincoln-memorial.html

I agree. I saw people of all races joining hand and hand. There was actually a black man and a white man posing for a picture where the sign said "Am I racist?" They were smiling having a good time.

I found it more ironic that like 90% of the people protesting were the whitest white men you could find. The one exception was the woman with the "Black Lesbian" sign... Not sure what they heck she was protesting, but it was amusing to say the least.

One guy held a sign that said "There is no freedom without socialism" and i was like. Wanna make a bet? So sad.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is even some of the people there didnt really understand what Glenn was trying to do. They seemed to think it was a Conservative/Liberal thing. But it's not. It's supposed to be an awakening to our birthright and heritage. It's supposed to help us be aware of our Founding values like Honor, Integrity, Virtue, Faith, Hope, Charity. It was an encouragement to turn us to God and seek to do His will.

I think this will be a catalyst in the lives of some people. May not effect others. But those it does effect will have a profound effect on society.

You are insinuating via your picture and subsequent words, that we are all puppets that believe in the "tea party" movement. I have no idea who these "billionaires" are that you speak of as I am interested in the movement solely based on the changes they collectively seek. But rather than accept that we have beliefs and want change - you would rather troll and imply that we have no thoughts or desires of our own - which couldn't be further from the truth - and our masses will show you just that come November.

No Jimmy, real conservatives regard tea-baggers with the same horror they would a plague victim. It's why there are no real conservatives...those cast in the mold of Barry Goldwateter and William F. Buckley...left in the movement. They were cast out because their ideological purity was suspect...because they refused to march in lockstep with the slobbering populism that has replaced even the pretense of intellectual rigor, in today's conservative movement.

Under any definition, past or present, I know I will be listed as a conservative. I know what the core principles of being a conservative are. Not even all Cons will agree on every last detail, but they are conservative based on the overall picture. To tell me otherwise because you think there are billionaires somewhere telling me what to believe is simply absurd. I'm sure there are some "sheep" that simply listen to what others tell them and follow in step - but it's a bit presumptuous to label some of us as such just because you see a difference in history between the label. Our core principles remain the same. Would you like for me to take a few online tests and see what spectrum I fall under, or will the test that points us to being conservatives be written by billionaires?

I may not be a conservative in some mold you have of some conservative folk in the past, but I'm a conservative nonetheless and proud of it.

And the first step on the road to recovery is admitting you have a problem. But as a movement, conservatism in America has abandoned the secular ideals of restraint, truly limited government, and fiscal responsibility espoused by the founders of the American conservative movement. This change began with the election of Ronald Reagan and metastasized to it's current state of populist drivel and cults of personality. Never mind that Reagan couldn't be elected dog-catcher from the ranks of the GOP in its current state. He was nowhere near "conservative enough for the current crop of leaders of the American conservative movement.

Pride is one thing Jimmy. Be certain, though, of just what it is that you have pride in. "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18

Well, this is what happens when one starts putting labels on people. Humans are so widely diverse that we can't be categorized into one or two groups. I am a total capitalist and yet I am not religious....so I'm not one of the religious right, but I think I would be classified as conservative.

Old school conservatives were absolutely not afraid to think for themselves. In fact, they prided themselves on appealing to reason. These intellectual roots have been abandoned in favor of populist appeals to emotion, and the base emotion of fear at that. Essentially scaring whote people for fun and (political) profit.

Appealing to emotion is a purely dimocrat thing. Knee jerk reactions, making silly laws, creating resolutions. All wastes of time. Scare tactics is another dimocrat ploy. Scare the voters into going along with them about some silliness they have concocted. Conservatives still have the intellectual roots. You, being a sheeple dim, can't see the roots cause your too busy worrying about the popular appeals to emotion that your always playing too. Your only fooling the other sheeple.

See that's just not true, but hey, who cares what the founding fathers said right, what did they know about it anyway...

Again, where did Hitler support limited central government?

Where did Hitler support and encourage individual liberties?

Where did Hitler support racial equality?

Please, I'd love to know.

When BP is short on facts to back up his posts (which is nearly 100% of the time) he pulls either the race card or the Nazi card from the bottom of the deck

Noir, I can only excuse your post due to young age, and the fact you live in the country that those Founding Fathers defeated for independence

Noir ... do you really think that only those referred to as the "founding fathers" had input into the formation of this nation? Until every single letter and missive from every single person who fought for our freedom is published and all of them say "God has nothing to do with our fight", then perhaps I'll believe this nation was not founded upon Christian principles.

Don't let a statement made by a group of politicians trying to gain a treaty with another country be the end all of your thought process. Think it through ..... one document .... Treaty of Tripoli .... is going to stop you from further research?

As we know from our own experiences with politicans .... they will say different things to different people in order to move things in the direction they think is best.

Here's some fodder for thought:

It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor. 64 (http://vftonline.org/EndTheWall/duty_worship.htm#BM_ENDNOTES)PRESIDENT GEORGE WASHINGTON, 1789
[W]e ought to be led by religious feelings of gratitude; and to walk before Him in all humility, according to His most Holy Law . . .[and] humbly supplicate our Heavenly Father to grant us the aids of His grace . . . and vouchsafe His smiles upon our temporal concerns. 65 (http://vftonline.org/EndTheWall/duty_worship.htm#BM_ENDNOTES)GOVERNOR SAMUEL ADAMS, 1795
The goodness of the Supreme Being to all His rational creatures demands their acknowledgments of gratitude and love; His absolute government of the world dictates that it is the interest of every nation and people ardently to supplicate His favor and implore His protection. 66 (http://vftonline.org/EndTheWall/duty_worship.htm#BM_ENDNOTES)GOVERNOR JOHN HANCOCK, 1782
To a people who believe the superintending Providence of the Divine Being over all human affairs, that even a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His permission, it will not be unexpected that their civil rulers should call upon them . . . to seek the Divine protection and assistance. 67 (http://vftonline.org/EndTheWall/duty_worship.htm#BM_ENDNOTES)MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNING COUNCIL, 1780

Young liberals like Noir dismiss the Founding Fathers as nuts and has beens.

However, that group of God fearing gun nuts beat the most pwoerful army in tghe world and wrote the groudwork for the government that is still the worlds best and longest lasting

Even thiough liberals are doing the best to destroy it

The thing about those times is that they weren't interested in the religious aspects of things. It was about politics and war. Most people were assumed to be christian of one sort or another. That was the mind set of the times. You were either catholic, church of England or some other protestant sect. Most people didn't know what buddists hindu's and musslemen were. The orient was still pretty much a mystery for many in the west. The whole religion argument was about the church of England. It was Christians arguing and sometimes fighting with Christians.

As for treaties, those got broke regularly. They were oft hand promises that were as good as the paper they were written on. There was no un or world court to run to if a treaty was broken. The losing party got the shit end of the deal. Ask any Indian tribe.

The claiming a person was a deist or atheist or whatever is, just a liberal ploy to make him sound the way they want him to sound. It's revisionism. Trying to characterize him based on some writings so they can present a case they are trying to make. The idea of a god was standard throughout the colonies and England. So a genetic wording was established in the Declaration and the Constitution to appease everyone. The genius of the writing comes through.
