I am starting to think this last decade was the worst ever, atleast the 50s had some good music.
The last decade: boring, lame, pathetic

Yup.
People were free to think and feel, as long as they didnt hurt nobody.
today its about trying to be tough, to over compensate.
who knows what those gangsters/rappers are compensating for

Sorry guys but RAP is NOT music.

I agree, rap is not music.
I did live through the 50's. The music was great and I have lots of cd's full of 50's music.
The early 70's were ok for music, but I personally never liked disco very much. The later 70's were almost strictly heavy metal or disco. I became an oldies fan then.
Martin the 70's your thinking of started in 1967. It was about drugs and hedonism and getting the country to accept socialism. There's way more sex now days then there was back then. The music was used to get the agenda accepted.
What Gaffer said. I too lived through the fifties.

Loved the 50's. Graduated from HS, bought my first car [54 Mercury], and my buddy and I drove across country with no cares. Gas was about 16 cents a gallon and a hamburger with all the trimings 25 cents. We didn't have to lock our doors at night, or worry about young boys and girls being grabbed off the streets.
The down side? No alternative news. Just the same NBC, ABC, AND CBS. and they haven't changed

I turned 5 in 1960, so I guess I 'lived through' the later part of the 50's, of course I don't remember much, just the Presidential campaign of JFK and Nixon. I was in teens through the 70's and will say that with the exception of g and end of Vietnam it was pretty much like the 90's, until midway and Carter.
There were lots of drugs, sex, and rock n' roll. My guess is Mr. P was probably busy then with life and caught the darker side of the late 60's. I think our perceptions of certain decades really have to do with the age we are and time of life we are when experiencing them. For me the 60's was pretty much like the 50's, but then again I was in grammar school. I learned much more about the reality as I got older and read more.

I survived the 50's, 60's and 70's. I was in typing class when JFK was assassinated. I remember when the Beatles first landed on American soil. In the 50's the school dances were called "sock hops,' because most of us danced in our socks.
Before my hubby was sent to Viet Nam in 1967, we lived for six months in Lawton, OKla, a huge army town about 10 miles from Fort Sill. While he had to spend weekdays on biv-o-wac, (out in the field) I stayed in town. I discovered a USO Club in Lawton and joined that while he was gone. I used to help serve spaghetti dinners and make popcorn to soldiers that were still on base. I've lived thru two decades that have given us sooo much history that it still blows my mind.
I remember the first afternoon we pulled onto base and parked in front of the "Guest House." (Housing for soldiers guests and only allowed to stay three days). When we got out of the car it was exactly like stepping into an army flick. There were various platoons of soldiers marching to cadence right past where we parked. I was 19, niave, and it made a huge impression on my young mind. To this day, I have never forgotten how it made me feel to be there and see that. One of the most awesome experiences of my life.
So yeah, I remember the 50's and much, much more. Two of the most interesting decades ever. Hippies, hippies, hippies. Young people breaking out of the chains of bondage, so to speak..... One has to live thru it to really get the gist of what it was like.
And in the 70's I was in my 20's, married with two babies and just enjoying my youth.....
If I could do it all over again I'd most certainly love to live thru both decades once again. Especially during the 60's.

I forgot to add about the fast cars back then. The good old hotrods...God, I loved those. I still do.... We use to have drag races on one of the main highways when the cops weren't around.....with the radios blasting out great tunes.
Road Runners. MYG! I sure do miss those.....Hot runnin' vehicles. Did I say I missed them? :laugh2: Man............I miss those times. We were soooooo fortunate to live grow up during those two decades. Young people today have no inkling as to what they missed out on........
Do you remember the show Happy Days? Well, it was a lot like that. Some of the drive-in restaurants had girls come out to the cars and take orders. Some places the girls were on roller skates. I worked at one for a few months but wasn't on roller skates. Car hops.... that what they were called.......
And little diners used to have small individual juke boxes sitting on tables where you'd drop in a dime or whatever it was back then, don't remember for sure, pick a couple of tunes and off it would play. Cool as heck.
Yep, I miss that stuff. Now everything is so commericalized or done by huge corporations it takes all the fun out of it....

Well it was a mixed decade for me, I started out getting married and all three of my kids were born during those years. By the time it was closing out, I was trying to figure out how to raise those three little ones on my own. Somehow I survived the 90's. ;)

The problem I had was that we had picked up and moved from a big city to a much smaller one in norther michigan. Hubby was having trouble finding work in the city. And we found it to be just as bad in the new location. It was tough. No money. Nothing but struggle, struggle, scrimp, scrimp. Man......I hated it.. I'd find work and support us all while he was laid of from a job. We even cut wood and sold it to make some cash. As far as I'm concerned we can pitch that decade and have a huge bonfire with it....

that's what builds character and starts independence. my late granny told me the world does not owe me a living. and it stuck. I can't imagine being spoon feed and pampered like these kids today. they got it made. or do they????

Yep, for the most part they do. The way the girls dress for school is just appalling. Unbelievable that the schools allow it.
Most of the youth today don't know or won't know a thing about making it themselves out in the real world. Millions of them are just clueless.

After reading the posts and watching the videos some of you were kind enough to provide, Last night my wife and I spent over two hours on You Tube watching old videos of Dean Martin, Don Rickles, Sammy Davis Jr, Foster Brooks and other hollywood celebs of the 50's and 60's and we wondered, where are their replacements? I wouldn't walk across the street to see most of the present day celebs.. Some of you may not be familiar with those names, but I urge you to check them out. That was the most entertaining evening we have had in a while.

Totally awesome. Geez I sure remember that music. The first few notes in and I'm a goner, singing away as tho' I were thrown back into my teens. As long as I live I will never forget the music that came out of those two decades..... :coffee:

I loved Jersey Boys, saw it downtown, twice. :laugh2: Worth every penny! Buddy Holly, too! Also worth the cost.
