Iran Mullet Ban: Iranian Law Forbids Fashion Faux Paus, Human Rights Violation?

Apparently the Iranian government has decided on an Iran mullet ban. The Iranian law forbids fashion faux paus. The question is whether or not that is yet another human rights violation or if its simply a matter of helping the populace move into the current century? Let’s exam the new Iran mullet ban law below. Also, enjoy the photo and video of some famous mullets.

Iran has been in the news a lot today. They are usually in the news for outrageous human rights violations, like the stoning death of a mother who was accused of adultery. They had no proof that Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtianin committed but the judges thought she might have, so she’s spent five-years in prison, received 99 lashes and is condemned to be stoned to death. Then there is their accusation that Iranian passenger jets are being refused refueling in several countries. That has something to do with Obama and his association with BP perhaps?
Whatever the case, the latest news out of Iran is that the government there is banning mullet hair styles. This hardly rises to the level of stoning a woman for an accusation of adultery, but still … is it a human rights violation? Seriously, we are talking a mullet. This is not the 80s and if you live in Iran, wearing a mullet is now illegal. Other hair styles that are deemed ‘decadent Western cuts’ are now illegal in Tehran as well, including the ponytail and elaborate spikes.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s cultural ministry has issued a guide for acceptable hairstyles that conform to the ideals of modesty, morality and decency. Interestingly, the list includes a goatee, which hasn’t been included in the past. I just feel badly for all the people who were executed for wearing a goatee since its now approved by the Iranian government! If only they had waited till now to grow one!
