How come men are laughed at, and not taken seriously when they are abused?

I was in an anger management class, and the women laughed when one of them said they hit a man

we're in a sick culture, where men are treated as second class citizens

Noble....I don't think it is right that people hit each other...as a young child I watched my father beat the crap out of my mother, and my stepmother, on a regular basis ... because the beans burned, or his shirts weren't ironed, or she overselpt...it didn't really matter...there was always a good reason in his mind.

When I was eight my mother took me and my brothers and ran away. Eventually she remarried and when my stepdad started hitting her she finally said enough is enough and started hitting back....and I can't tell you how many knock down, drag out fights I saw them get into ... and they didn't care where they were or who was watching. I had to call the cops all the time because I thought they would kill each other (this was way before the law that someone had to go to jail for a domestic dispute call).

So, I don't know any of the women in your class, but I would think that at some time or another they've either been beaten or come from a family where people hit each other. I made a point of letting any man in my life know that if he ever hit me he had better never go to sleep in my house again.

Thankfully, the men in my life were raised to believe hitting doesn't solve anything....I've been pretty lucky.....considering all the anger in the world and the background I came from.
