Hate what is happening to the animals from the oil spillage?
Hate the economic devastation to the people on the coast?
Well, I do too.

However, BP does not to be vilified. The company has said
it will take full responsibility for what has happened.

It may have just been a freak accident, or just maybe not.
How many thousands of these oil rigs hum right along, enduring hurricanes and earth quakes and other things
in the vast oceans of the earth with no problems.

Why is no one considering a terrorist action? Or, maybe
there are forces in play that just happen to be all too
convenient for BO and his minions.

What about the timing. First BO changes his direction,
says ok, we will drill....then boom..disaster...people mad
at the evil oil companies, dirt people enraged, remember,
never let a good disaster go to waste! Cap n tax will rescue mother earth.

I dont want to change my lifestyle. I dont want to go back
to window fans for cooling in heat of the summer, dont want to walk, crawl or peddle every place I need to go,
pick dandelion leaves to eat or beat my clothes out on rocks to clean them.

For anyone to vilify the oil companies who search and harvest our
fuel for everything when they are sucking up energy to
flit all over the world, first class or private planes and
drive SUVs or limos personify pure hypocrisy.

BP is not the enemy. Think about it.

There used to be a bumper sticker my friend in VT had, "Don't complain about farmers with your mouth full"

I think a paraphrase of that is applicable here, "Don't complain about oil companies with your tank full"

These people that are villifying BP are so focused on BP that they are not looking at the point that it could have been a legitimate accident, and that it could have happen to any oil company. So if you're boycotting BP, then you should be boycotting oil period, not just one company.

Now, that said, there are people who are doing just that, especially in the cities, where cars are not as necessary to daily life as they are elsewhere. They are buying bikes, using mass transit when needed, and otherwise cutting down their gas in many ways, and to these people I say way to go, you're doing it the right way. Deprive all of the oil companies of your money, and show other people the right way to protest, not to just scream idly at the companies that are providing what most the country uses.

If we simply used less gas, then we could be completely energy independent within a year or two, without the government getting itself invovled. If the government found out they could get all the gas the country needs in house, we would never even deal with OPEC, we wouldn't need to, and that would change pretty much every dynamic of the world economy. Self-sufficiency in my opinion is the first step in being truly free.

If the government really does want to get itself involved, it should what it is doing now, switching the federal and state vehicle fleets over to hybrids, then change over all of the buses and cabs. Cutting out the consumption is an ideal way to do it, and as well will actually save the government money by cutting down the gas cost of the cars in question.

We just dont have any real answers about what really
happened on the day of the "event". Thats the point.
Why do we not and why are there no onslaught of questions into it?

BP has lost half its value so far but they are working away
to clean up the mess. We have no reason to doubt that
they will not do everything they can.

And as dragon pointed out, unless you are walking and
not using oil, put a sock in it!

in anything else....we cant afford it or survive it.
