TAYLORSVILLE, Ky. -- A 23-year-old man suspected to have drowned at Taylorsville Lake Saturday has been identified as a Fort Knox soldier.
A news release from the base said Spc. Anthony Carter has been assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion there since November 2009.
He served in Afghanistan with the Indiana National Guard's 1613th Engineer Company before his assignment to Fort Knox.
The release said Carter is suspected to have drowned in Taylorsville Lake Saturday afternoon. Divers continued to search for him Monday.
Spencer County Sheriff's Deputy Gordon Miles said the man was swimming back to a pontoon boat after 4 p.m. when he went under. Miles said a group of six had been out "enjoying the day" and he did not think alcohol was involved.
