LAS VEGAS – A 24-year-old brunette from Michigan recovered after nearly stumbling in her evening gown and beat out four blondes and 46 other women to take the 2010 Miss USA title on Sunday.
Rima Fakih of Dearborn, Mich., won the pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip after swimsuit, evening gown and interview competitions.
From the article....
Miss Oklahoma USA Morgan Elizabeth Woolard was named first runner-up after handling a question about Arizona's new immigration law. Woolard said she supports the law, which requires police enforcing another law to verify a person's immigration status if there's "reasonable suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally.
She said she's against illegal immigration but is also against racial profiling.
"I'm a huge believer in states' rights. I think that's what's so wonderful about America. So I think it's perfectly fine for Arizona to create that law."
"The Office" actor Oscar Nunez was booed as he asked the question and asked the audience to wait until he finished the question before they reacted.

How can you observe both? Islam seeks to destroy Christianity and Christianity doesn't look to highly upon Islam.

My daughter was in the audience and when the question came up for Miss Oklahoma she said she was very happy with her answer and was the one whistling (my daughter lives in AZ). Too bad Miss Oklahoma didn't get it -- we were voting for her!

This Lebanese hotty may be beautiful and even talented, but the deciding factor was that muslims are presently the Darlings Of Liberalism.

Gabbys onto something and doesn't even know it...
When I found out she was as Arab/American(I assumed Muslim) the contest was over for me...she won on that ethnic background alone....there were far more beautiful contestants....
So the contest was a farce...the guilt-ridden pinhead liberals were gonna pick her no matter what...

My husband could attest that two days before the contest I predicted she would win when I saw her name.
Gabby: I heard that the woman's family (extended, most likely) has some Christians. Are you sure that she herself practices both religions? That doesn't sound right to me. (For that matter, she could be referring to one cousin, twice removed as the Christian part of the family).

Abbey, read the AP story:

Fakih, an Arab-American from Dearborn, Mich., told pageant organizers her family celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths.

I had read it, Gabs. We still don't know from the article what part of her family is Christian. And her attending Catholic school doesn't mean she's Catholic. In many areas, it's just the safest and best place to go to school.
It doesn't matter anyway, but don't you find it interesting that I could predict she would win based on only reading her name? Not that she isn't very pretty.

You win Miss USA, you get trouble:
A Detroit radio station is reporting that the new Miss USA won a stripping contest a few years back. And yes guys, there are pictures. :p

I am agnostic, bordering on atheism. My wife is not, many of my friends are not. I have celebrated Christmas, Passover, Easter, Hanukkah, and a few other religious observances from varying beliefs. Does this mean I observe both Christian and Jewish faiths?
I think not.
It means I respect the beliefs of my friends and loved ones and am not offended regardless of my belief system. Or lack thereof.
The reference to this woman's observing both Christian and Muslim religions could mean many things.

Here's a true blue honest U.S. capitalist.

I fail to see why questions of this sort were asked during a beauty pageant. Results do not normally factor in intelligence.

Yeah, when was the last time we heard any reporter or anyone else saying "caucasion American or white American"? I've often wondered why it's always expressed as black Americans, asian Americas etc..... It's as tho' just being an American isn't good enough.....
Just another way to stir that turd and keep it going......

The country most envied by the rest of the world...The country that has come a very long way in a very short time..... The country that is a baby compared to others, in terms of how long it's been here, has worked it's way to being the top dog of the world....
Not too shabby for a country that is still in it's infancy..... Someday, I'd love to live there..... Oh yeah........I forgot....I already do......:coffee:

The reason some folks get upset by the racy pictures is because these women are supposed to be role models for younger girls. What little girl doesn't dress up and pretend they are Miss America, USA, etc? No parent wants their little girl seeing a picture of Miss USA pole dancing on the news. The same standard should be held for politicians. They are representing their county, state, country, etc. I do not want a president who is getting a blow job in the oval office by some bimbo representing me and my family as Americans, to every country in this world. When you are representing a certain group of people you are held to a higher standard. If you cannot do so, get out and let someone who can, do the job.

You're making wild assumptions there, friend. Doing a radio-show pole dance doesn't matter. There's nothing wrong with that. The woman was an adult. She wasn't victimized. When my daughter becomes 21 she's legal to do just about anything she wants (so far, that's changing though with Nanny States and Fascist Liberals and such..).
If she's got the body and the moves and participates in a radio-show pole-dance competition I'll think she's being silly...but that's all.
Tonight I'm going to show my 11 year old this story. We'll discuss the topic of "Sure, you can do something silly and still not be a bad person - you can succeed in life even with what might be poor decisions. You are MUCH more than your specific decisions at particular times in life.
When I was 21 I was in Germany...doing...hrm...things much "worse" - i'll say "sillier" than what this VERY HOT Dearborn woman did. I'll never be Miss America/USA...but I think I'm pretty successfull.
Did this woman KILL anyone? Did she committ relative Moral suicide or transgress in a way which should require continued shame the rest of her life - or even PRISON?
We, Americans, Need to pull the sticks out of our collective asses and allow people to be people!
