Does anyone have the growing feeling that our country is coming to an ideological crossroad(s)? That people are moving towards a polarization of beliefs the like of which hasn't been seen since the time of the Civil War?
I do, and it doesn't feel very good. Let's discuss.

I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees.
Asked the lord above for mercy, save me if you please."

Well, we're moving in that direction, all right.
But we did it in 1933-1940, too, when FDR imposed far more draconian controls on the nation during the Great Depression than Obama has now (SO FAR). Many of FDR's programs were struck down by the Supreme Court, as many of Obama's will be, until FDR threatened to add six more justice seats to the Court to put in judges he hand-picked for socialist ideology.
And this kind of ideological rift occurred again in the 1950s, when Joe McCarthy held his famous Senate hearings. McCarthy committed various excesses, but recent releases of formerly-secret Soviet files shows he was mostly right in his accusations.
What we're going through now, is upsetting, but not more extreme than we have been through before. And it certainly isn't new.

I have a growing feeling of uneasiness ..... I left my doors unlocked for over 15 years -- even when we went on vacation. Started getting a little edgy when hubby was deployed and especially last five years while he's been stationed in another city. Have complete and extensive security system now .... SIL is helping me with firearms and ammunition (he has enough to protect Ft. Knox). Thinking about buying a canister of the "survival seeds".....have one generator and in process of getting another one to keep our well running.
Thought about pulling out a couple thousand dollars and keeping it handy in case there is a cyber attack and the banks can't operate. But then wondering if anyone would use money or if every thing would be barter. Thinking about what would be good barter. Saw movie "The Book of Eli" and water was very valuable, wet wipes (because there was no water), sunglasses, etc.
We have always been "earthquake" prepared, but now I'm not sure what the threat is .... but I "feel" it creeping up. So, yes, Abbey, I feel we are at a crossroads .... but actively praying and thanking God for what I have and for continuing to take care of me, my family and my friends......and for giving me guidance on what I need to be doing.

Im the same way. We have extra water, canned goods etc. I dont know
exactly what it is but something is coming.
And its not just a few of us that feel it. I have a good friend...not redneck
or anything like that....she and her husband have been thinking how they
can barter for what they may need and have started stocking up on a variety
of things. They have a good friend who is churning out as much wine as he
possibly can since alcohol will be a great bargaining tool!
Im a believer in coins. Paper money is worthless but I think coins can be real
money and useful to some extent. I save all my change...all of it.
I have another friend back toward Nashville. Her son who travels the world
going to plants owned by Remay, or is it DuPont, something like that and he
wants to add on to their (parents) house and move his family in. He says its going to
get really bad

Cat slave: Forces are pushing this country to a breaking point and its going to be ugly.
That's a good way to express what I am feeling. I know that we have had tough times before, but it seems so polarized now. The flag burnings and removals (both Mexican and American), clips of speeches from La Raza fomenting revolution, a President who seems oblivious to real threats from Muslims and illegal immigration, real steps towards Socialism. Government health care. How much can you tax one group to coddle the other? I could go on and on. Tea parties. There is a sense that the silent majority is coming to a breaking point.
Now Hussein is actually complaining about too much free speech on the air waves and the Internet. To him, our real and present fears about where he is leading this country are just a "distraction" from what he intends to force down our collective throats. I think that may be the thing that put me over the edge to serious concern about our future.

He did say he (or we) were going to "fundamentally" change the Country. Seems he is, and without consent. IMO

I've felt that same feeling over the last two years. It's gotten worse within the last year. Personally, I believe America has been heading towards that crossroads for some time now. And we, the people, are going to have to decide which road we want to travel down. One towards socialism, totaltairism and communism or one that struggles and maintains it freedoms.......
We are at war with our gov't, so to speak. It has chosen to lead us down a path where other countries have gone before us or are still on that trail....
At some point in time our leaders will shut off our access to the internet. We will only get the news they choose to let us know.....
I believe we're heading for another revolution....I would suggest we all become armed for our protection.. If you don't have any weapons now, then you need to get some....
And don't let anyone take away our right to bear arms.... Without that, we are defenseless....

I think also, that America has never been as anti-Christian as it is now, which means the moral decay is at an all time high. It's almost to the point of wrong is now right, and right is now wrong, if that makes any sense. Look at the view on illegal immigration. Millions are actually calling the people against it morally incorrect for not supporting breaking the law, stealing peoples identities, robbing the tax payers, etc. It's such a twisted way of thinking.

This is true...That's why it's important to have some weapons that give off a big enough bang to do some damage....A pea shooter just isn't going to do the trick....
I would think we've had a large enough lesson to fall back on when we take a look back to the Nazis in WW2. Does the halicaust ring any bells for anyone? And if one thinks it can't happen again, then one is just plain naive as heck and has his/her head shoved up his/her ass.....

Well I think we should fundamentally change the country too. I just think we should Restore the Republic.

Our way of life is changing. I dont think alot of people want to admit it yet, but it is. We can't sustain our current society.
The question is do we go the way of the totalitarians or return to the true Republic?
I don't think it will be possible to return to the Republic until we prepare ourselves by preparing our lives. The reasons our Founders were successful is because they were a moral and upright people. They actively lived their faith. They practiced virtue. They took responsibility for their own lives and then selflessly served others.
Are we that type of people now? I don't think we are. And I think if we are going to see the changes we want in the world we need to start by building virtue in our lives, repenting of our sins, and embracing the values that made this country great to begin with. It's going to take sacrifice.
Are you willing to make it? Are you willing to prepare? We all need to ask ourselves that. If we were given power could we be trusted to give it back to the people? Can we govern a nation before we can govern ourselves?
And don't say it's the other guys that need to change. There is something in all of our lives that needs changing. Im willing to bet you can name them easily if you thought about it. It begins with being honest with ourselves and with our families.
I've been thinking of what I can do to prepare personally. I'm learning how to grow food in a garden. I'm teaching myself how to fix things. Im teaching myself to let go of the things that aren't important to focus on that which is.
We need knowledge and we need to refine ourselves so that we actually use the knowledge in our lives. It's about time we stopped forgetting that with Rights come Responsibilities.
I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here. But I think we need to start being more active or we will see painful and hard things in our life. And our children will suffer for it.

Didn't George Washington own slaves?

Didn't George Washington own slaves?
Yes. Not really relevant, though....
He inherited some from his father. He accumulated a few more.
It grew from there but, as he grew older, he started to realize how wrong it was to own another human.
Gotta understand, we're talking about a totally different era. A lot of people all over the world owned slaves.
In his will, he arranged for all of the slaves he owned to be freed after the death of his wife, Martha. He also left instructions for the continued care and education of some of his former slaves, support and training for all of the children until they came of age, and continuing support for the elderly.

Yeah I think about it all the time. I think that could happen by 2012.

I said it all two years ago. He's going to take control of all the private industry and enact laws that put everyone under the thumb of the government. He had a lib congress to back him. And he's doing just what he said he would. Everyone told me that was nuts because there are too many checks in the system for all that to happen. See any checks in use now? There will be massive voter fraud come Nov. Count on it. And all he needs is a crisis, real or make believe, to declare martial law and have control of everything. Look for that about Nov too. He's not just another lousy president.

I agree completely! There is more going on here than a
delusional jr senator becoming messiah/rock star. This is
not a fluke, its an orchestrated plan to weaken out country
and change it forever....he said he would but then he said
a lot of things. Ive wondered if he is just a figurehead for
powerful global movement.
I truly believe something will happen before Nov to set the
stage for martial law...how convenient! Hope Im wrong.

I think the best way to prepare for the future is to do what we need in our lives to ensure that we survive massive upheavel.
We need to be prepared. And we have to do it soon.

As far as morals go, Ben Franklin had a mistress for many, many years. He lived in France while his wife and family lived in the states... And when he died his son still didn't want anything to do with him....
Also, I believe Thomas Jefferson had slaves. And he bedded down with certain female ones when he felt the urge. I also believe he even had some children with one of the female slaves.... I think his concubines name was Sally Hennings.....
