What happend to the left's beloved "seperation of Church and State"?

I thought religious leaders were to stick to preaching and stay out of politics. At least that is what the liberals have always said - except when they wanted their support

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday urged Catholic leaders to "instruct" their parishioners to support immigration reforms, saying clerics should "play a very major role" in supporting Democratic policies.

"The cardinals, the archbishops, the bishops that come to me and say, 'We want you to pass immigration reform,' and I said, 'I want you to speak about it from the pulpit. I want you to instruct your' -- whatever the communication is," said Pelosi, who is Catholic, speaking at the Nation's Catholic Community conference sponsored by Trinity Washington University and the National Catholic Reporter.

"The people, some (who) oppose immigration reform, are sitting in those pews, and you have to tell them that this is a manifestation of our living the gospels," she said.

While it's not unusual for clergy to speak about politics from the pulpit, it is uncommon for a lawmaker to openly encourage them to preach a specific policy.

Asked for clarification, a Pelosi spokesman issued the statement: "From health care to energy security to immigration reform, the speaker believes the faith community has played and will continue to play a critical role in our national debate."

The only reason Nancy Pelosi is encouraging the Catholic Church to support immigration reform is because the Democratic party needs the 20 million votes to keep it afloat. She is as Christian as Lawrence C. Murphy.:dev2:

Yeah, see, the thing is, it actually has nothing to do with pro-religion or anti-religion, or even separation of Church and State. It actually has to do with the Political Party doing it. If it were a republican doing it, even if it supports their goals, the Dems will oppose out of hand. Same thing as with the health care "reform", when Republicans threw in all of Obama's campaign promises for the bill, and every one of them was rejected out of hand.

If it had been a D next to the names on those points, it would most likely have been allowed through, but because of R, it was a no go.

When have Republican politicans went into a Church and gave a stump speech? If anyone did, they were wrong. However, in black church's - liberals do it all the time

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Rev Wright, ect - express their political views and openly support Dems

Libs have a fit when church's give out voter guides and encourage voters to vote against Dems - but now the left supports the church getting onvolved in politics

As long as libs give their approval on what they are supporting

Unless the church is a black church like Obama's former church in Chicago. If you try to take away the tax emempt status you are called a racist
