LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- A young nursing home worker is charged with assaulting an elderly woman. It happened in a home near Southern Parkway. Metro police have arrested 27-year-old Holly Whitaker. She's charged with assault and wanton endangerment.
Police say Whitaker was at home with the victim when the two had some sort of altercation earlier this month.
"Whatever it was escalated quickly to the point where physical contact was made, and as a result of that, the injuries happened to the victim," says Dwight Mitchell, with LMPD.
Whitaker is a transport aide at Parkway Nursing Center. Police say she did not attempt to help the victim after the confrontation. Management at Parkway would not go on camera but did say Whitaker is an excellent employee.
Meanwhile, the victim's family is in a tough position. That's because the suspect has three children by the victim's grandson.
"I don't know what escalated it, but I love both of 'em very much," says Charlotte Murphy, the victim's daughter in-law.
Whitaker was arraigned Thursday morning. Her bond was set at $500.
