The Future After Health Care
By Megan McArdle
Regardless of what you think about health care, tomorrow we wake up in a different political world.

Parties have passed legislation before that wasn't broadly publicly supported. But the only substantial instances I can think of in America are budget bills and TARP--bills that the congressmen were basically forced to by emergencies in the markets.

One cannot help but admire Nancy Pelosi's skill as a legislator. But it's also pretty worrying. Are we now in a world where there is absolutely no recourse to the tyranny of the majority? Republicans and other opponents of the bill did their job on this; they persuaded the country that they didn't want this bill. And that mattered basically not at all. If you don't find that terrifying, let me suggest that you are a Democrat who has not yet contemplated what Republicans might do under similar circumstances. Farewell, social security! Au revoir, Medicare! The reason entitlements are hard to repeal is that the Republicans care about getting re-elected. If they didn't--if they were willing to undertake this sort of suicide mission--then the legislative lock-in you're counting on wouldn't exist.
...Scary times, indeed.

Scary times indeed. Just when my hubby and I are getting so close to retirement age, the soc. sec. and medicare will up and disappear.... What are others in worse situtions going to do? How will they survive with no soc. sec.? Some are only living on that. What will become of them?

This is not the America I grew up in. This is becoming the land of the oppressed......Never in my life have I ever thought America would turn around in the opposite direction and head on a steady course straight into the arms of fascism and communism..... What is to become of the children of the future? Look what they have in store for them and they aren't even an embreyo yet......

As you asked, how can anyone listen to this ass? Well, I chose not to listen to his bigoted loud mouth and didn't even bother clicking on this vid. He's a hater, and has made it all too clear over the last 30 years that he hates whites....Therefore, he isn't worth the energy it takes for me to click and listen......

Indeed. Seat belts, helmets, smoking, speed limits, food, sugar, salt, drinking, now health care, auto industry, banks, railroads, what aren't they controlling? It's not the US any of us have known.

I remember my uncle, older than my dad, saying he remembered when Social Security first started and he saw that $1 per pay check deducted, he didn't like it. Of course he was saying this when he was collecting over $1k per month from the time he was 65 until 92. For much of his working life he didn't pay into, he was in an exempt position. But he did in the beginning and for the 10 years before retired-got full SSI.

Now we all know we are not of that generation, no we started working when he was collecting. It won't be there for us, but I think the kids today will feel the same about this new hcp. Some will 'make out', others royally screwed-them.

I just don't understand how a document that is 2700 PAGES long and is being rushed thru with pressure applied to all those opposed of it, will be good, in its entirety for Americans.... There's been a smelly stench of some stinky poo for several months now over this. Something just doesn't come off smelling like roses here.....

I'm not as optimistic as many of you for a total swamping in November. I fear that the media, along with willing tools are going to scare many away from the 'change' that's needed. There are reasons that the portrayal of tea parties are coming along as they are; racist and anti-immigration, (not mind you, anti-illegals, but anti-immigration.) Many will play into that.

As for health care plan, it's front loaded for collecting, but will people recognize that by November? They are giving out the 'perks' of pre-existing conditions on children, (not that many, thus 'cheap' and 'children to 26', again mostly covered already by employers and universities.) Yet, they will hammer home.

I hope I'm wrong, but have seen too much not to fear.

I certainly understand your fears. I've been around long enough to know that if there's a stench there is something ugly causing it.... I've been getting a knot in my gut whenever I think about this and the trail our leaders have chosen to take us down....

Who's to say what people will recognize? Apathy resides around America. And in the extremely near future, America could come face to face with its destiny.....

even if the republicans do get in I sincerely doubt they will have the will or desire to REPEAL any of the substance of the law. When is the last time any laws less than 100 yrs have been wiped clean. Yes they've might wipe the foam off the mouth of the rabid dog but that's about it.

But please follow the Money.

Health-Care Overhaul Adds Millions of U.S. Customers
By Meg Tirrell

March 22 (Bloomberg) -- Drugmakers and health insurers will gain millions of customers under legislation overhauling the U.S. medical system. The industry also will pay new fees to the government, and face stricter rules that may narrow profit margins and fuel mergers.

The bill that the House passed in a pair of votes yesterday expands coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans, according to Congressional number crunchers. That means more sales for Pfizer Inc., the world’s largest drugmaker; UnitedHealth Group Inc., the largest health insurer; and a cluster of companies led by Amerigroup Corp. that specialize in managing services through Medicaid, a program that will grow in the remake.

Dems and Repubs are tools, who do they serve?

Have you tried the Jesse Jackson omelette?

You take 3 eggs

Seperate the yolks

and best only the whites
