Okay, seriously...
I don't know how far within Indiana you are traveling, but if it were me I'd rent a car and drive it.

Fort Wayne?
Why are you coming here Noir? Price wise it might just be easy to puddle jump to FW, if that is where you are going.

Honestly, I don't know about the license thing, but I can't imagine it would be a problem. The only problem maybe age, aren't you about 20 or so? I think there is a minimum age to rent a car in the U.S., but I could be mistaken.
Have you thought to ask a travel agent? Most would be happy to answer your questions.
Give the board an hour or so and I'll bet you get your answers. I do believe at least one member is in the Idianapolis area.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I'm pretty sure the age is 21 to rent a car. You could have it put in your parents name though.
Driving is definitally cheeper than getting a short flight up here and it's only a 2 1/2 hour drive. VERY boring with nothing much between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne except cows and farms.
Horrible time of year for you to visit. You just never know what the weather is going to do.
BTW you'll be within 1/2 an hour of nukeman, Monkeybone and me.

There we go, I was telling Nuke about this but Trigg got here. May/June is a nice time here, unless we get a humid day. And like Trigg says, there are expanse of a whole lotta nothing between Indy and FW.

Will have to check more about the Driver's license, because certain Canadian ones don't count, but they have 'levels' apparently.
Monkeybone

Will my British driver's license be adequate for renting a car?
The U.S.A. has an agreement with most countries whereby the renter's full national driving license may be used for a period of up to one year in the U.S.A. This applies to the full U.K. driving license. Provisional licenses are not acceptable.
Most car rental companies require that you have held a full license for at least one year, regardless of age. The minimum age for renting a car is normally 21 although it can be as high as 25. Often an additional charge is levied on drivers who are under 25 years of age.
International Driving Permits are generally not required in the U.S.A but it is helpful to carry one. If they are taken, they are only valid in conjunction with a full national driving license. They should not be accepted on their own. It is recommended that drivers who possess a full national license that is in script other than Roman, i.e. Cyrillic or Arabic, should also obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Young drivers may wish to obtain an International Driving Permit to use as a photo ID, in place of a passport, for entry into bars and nightclubs where the minimum age for entry is 21 years.
If you have endorsements on your license, do check with your rental company that these do not present a problem.
We suggest that you check the requirements of your prospective automobile rental company by
http://www.usembassy.org.uk/rctour.html
Cheers for all the info MB, i've only had my licence for like 3 months so that'll be outa the question, but if i'm able to fly direct to FW then all should be fine,
btw i really need to spread rep lol,

Hey Noir,
We drive on the opposite side of the road here, the driver's seat is on the left and you shift with your right hand. Fuel prices in San Fran will be closer to what you are used to. Go across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, there is a scenic observation point on the ocean side of the highway that has incredible views of the ocean and San Francisco with the bridge in the foreground, a must place to shoot photographs from. There is also a great floating neighborhood of houses on barges in Sausalito too.
Drive the 2 hours down Highway One along the coast to Carmel, great place. Take the "Seventeen Mile Drive" while you're there and you will drive by 3 of the finest golf courses on the planet, including Pebble Beach. South of Carmel is State Park Point Lobos........ beautiful place. I shot these there last year at this time.

But i shall be restricted to foot and public transport methinks,
Oh so often the best laid plans go wanting, everything was in place, flights, accommodation and so forth, all ready to be booked when my money came through in the next 2-3 weeks, and then....her parents found out about it Dx
Her mums gone fully Psycho and pulled her out of the Summer dance school and has cut off her internet ect, so now its gonna start to get interesting xD

Good lord not you too,
Everyones solution to 'i don't like being around drunks/stoners' or 'Go out partying? Would you not rather stay in' is for people to say 'you need to come out of your shell'
Everyone is in a rush to try and have as much 'fun' as they can, if this involves taking drugs (legal and illegal), being sexually promiscuous and being part of the crowd, and if you don't find any of that tosh fun then you're a bore who needs to 'come out of your shell'
I'd really rather not, thank-you.

I know lots of young people, 20's, that take in movies, theater, just play video games-even board games, (Risk comes to mind). They do dance clubs, pool halls, comedy clubs, etc., not getting high or drunk. Nothing like that in England? I find that difficult to believe.

I'm not saying they don't have a beer, they are over 21, but they don't drink to get drunk. They don't drive and drink. Indeedy, as much as i do love Northern Ireland, i can only rue the fact that i was not born in the US, especially if it is as you suggest in terms of young people that acutely know how to live a decent youth and still have fun, that is somthing that has really gone wrong in the UK, and chirst knows what we'll be like in 20 years when all these people are parents (and in some cases grandparents)

Utter tosh. There is nothing as plain rude as someone making judgements about others for no good reason, in this case your 'reason' is age. In Savannah's mums case its cus we talk on the internet, both are irrelevant and quiet insulting, in my opinion.

As the mother of a sixteen and fourteen year olds here is my oppinion.
Even though I've been talking to you for a few months/year I still would not let you come visit my daughter with the intention of having any type of relationship with her.
You're what 22? Sixteen is WAY TO YOUNG to be getting involved with a man your age. Many parents aren't even letting their girls date at that age. I know my daughter will only have started dating at sixteen and those will be group dates.
From what you've posted the girl wasn't being honest about her age, and she wasn't being truthfull to her parents, that shows her maturity level right there.
You're lucky you found out now, you could have landed in jail. Sixteen is jailbait in this country. If her parents found out they could have had you arrested. Even if you intention wasn't to have sex with her the police would have assumed the worst. Your a grown man coming to meet a teenager, huge red flag in the minds of parents and police.
btw were the parents traveling with the girl or was she going with a group? I'm sure that is also making a difference to how the parents are reacting to the situation.

The age issue is anything but irrelevant.
The parents don't know you from Adam. Here is what they see. They see a man who may or may not be from England, and they have only your word how old you are and what your intentions are.
They're looking out for their daughter. Internet relationships are full of problems. People lie about who they are and what they think online everyday. Internet predators are real. You're not one so your insulted. Set aside your feeling for a moment and look at what the parents are seeing.
As the parents of a sixteen year old you could be a nextdoor neighbor and still get this reception. There is just no good reason for a 22 year old man to be interrested in a child.

I'm 19,
She was not being dishonest about her age, it just never came up, and when it did she admitted that she did not bring it up herself with the assumption that i would of prejudged her by her age alone.
Her parents, is a much more tricky issue, i have approached Savannah with several ways in which my presence may become known to them, and i want them to know me, because i know for a fact they will like me, and while her dad is wholly reasonable about the whole thing her mother is nothing short if a psychopath. Just by way of explination, her mother does not yet know we were planning on meeting, all she knows is that we talk via email & video, and that was enough for her to take Savannahs Laptop, pull her out of the summer school and launch a tirade of verbal assaults against her daughter. JUST because she's talking to someone online =/
To a great extent that has vindicated savannah on my eyes when she seemed so cautious about making myself known to her mum.
Erm, assumed the worse? You can not go to jail on assumptions. I don't know about america but over here you are innocent until proven guilty, and i don't know how i could be guilty of anything,
She was traveling on her own (as she also did to the same dance school the year before)
Again most of your thoughts about the issue seem to centre on the nonsensical point of an arbitrary figurer that tells you nothing about the human behind the number.
Age is not relevant to anything, i don't see why so much emphassis seems to be put on a fairly meaningless number.
There we are, back to making assumptions, i'm from the internet ergo i'm evil. You know i could happily deal with the assumptions if they were happy to give me a chance to prove otherwise, but that looks unlikely.
I am not 22, and she is not a child.
I have come across this nonsense before however, when i first meet my last girlfriend i was 17 and she was 14, i'm sure i need not explain the abuse i received from peers both in school and work ect, however, we continued undaunted, and her parents were not prejudging and agreed to let me live with the for a week, and by the end of that week any reservations that had got of me because of the idiocy of a pointless number where banished. We ended up together for just over 2 years, living in our own house for 1 of those years, and though we have since broken up i still keep in contact with her, her mother and brother, as a family friend, and yet all of that which happened would no doubt of been impossible with most people because of the prejudice of age which is seen as a legitimate prejudice.

I'm not trying to prejudge you, I happen to think you're a pretty level headed person.
Stop for a moment and consider what her mom knows or more importantly what her mother doesn't know.
The Internet is scary and she's right to be suspicious of ANY man who wants to meet her daughter away from parental supervision. Sorry, but you were both being sneaky about the trip. That's more her fault than yours, but there ya go.
They haven't met you, for all they know your some old pedophile living in an apartment in Detroit who tries to hook up with unsuspecting innocent teenagers.
I'm not sure what the law is in the UK or Ireland, but here if a sixteen year old says a man wanted to meet me for sex............your butt is in the slammer.

You are prejudging me because you think the mother was right to do as she has done, and thus support her prejudging.
Indeedy, now consider what the mother will not let herself know, by refusing to speak to me.
True there was an air of sneakiness about it, and why? Because Savannah knew what her mum would be like about it (i myself was rather dubious about her claims) but given what has happened in two days i can certainly see where she was coming from.
Well our justice system is one based on evidence, and thus intention would need be proven beyond reasonable doubt, which it could not even if she decided, for some reason, to try and lie about such a thing.

I simply understand why the mother had the reaction.
Again she knew nothing about you, other than a 19 year old man was planning to secretly meet her UNDERAGE daughter away from parental supervision.
Do you not understand that there are predators out there on the Internet who prey on young girls???
As far as pulling her out of the dance tour, that is her decision. She may change her mind and simply decide to travel with her.
Before you decide her mother is a loon (after only 2 days of trying to clean up this mess), at least try to understand her position and the shock this has given her. Stop crying that it's unfair and actually try to understand their position.

As i have said, she does not know my age, and does not know we were planning to meet, only that we talk and i'm from the UK, given how she reacted to that i can only imagine what she would think if she knew of the meet,
I understand their are predators, however, to assuming that i am one is....prejudging LOL.
I don't know, maybe she will changer her mind, maybe she won't, but the very fact that she would threaten such a thing just because her daughter was talking to someone is cruel IMO.
Her position? You mean to tell me that Savannah deserves this because (as far as her mother knows) she was just talking to someone that she only knows via the internet? Her mother is a loon, pure and simple.
Just to point out this lunacy here are some extraxts from emails i have recieved over the past 48 hours, tell me what exactly you think of her mother, if not a loon.
My mom's going to take me out of my summer school because I was talking to you, we just had a massive argument because she was using my laptop and saw a video i made for you back at Christmas that i left in the recycling bin by accident. I had to leave the house to get away from her shouting and she locked the doors on me, so i had to spend 20 minutes waiting in the car until my father came home, and it's snowing here =(
...
I know, when she came into the room and i saw her face i knew it had to do with you, I was sure she was about to chuck the laptop at the wall.
...
My mom and dad are fighting over it now, he thinks she's over reacting. I don't know if I should go in and try to talk to them or just leave them.
...
[Note - I then suggested that i talk to her parents via webcam to try and clear the air a bit]
I just spent the past forty minutes pleading with my parents. At first, my mother wouldn't think of doing such a thing, but then my dad was all, "Wendy, at least consider it." But it would have been better if he hadn't, 'cause it ended with her throwing a duster... thing... at him, calling me a whore and saying my dad was going to let me be pimped out to strangers on the internet.
I could go on, all this because we talk, does that sound like the actions of a sane women to you?

Sounds like the actions of a concerned parent. Regardless of the girl's maturity, she remains a minor child and subsequently her parents are the arbiters of what she can and can't do. She could run away. I'd be interested to know what was in the video. And forgive me if anything short of seeing the actual video does not suffice, I'm the father of three daughters and the innocuous description the "victim" in a case such as this might provide just won't cut the mustard.

I know they can do whatever they like, it doesn't make what they chose to do right however. And she's not stupid enough to run away, that would be immature. Sure, I'll send you a link to the video when I get back home, via PM, I can't memo what's on it exactly, I think she talks about having gone to new York, Star Trek and talks about the Beatles.

Well i don't mean to be curt, but whether or not you find it difficult to believe is of little consequence to the fact that i'm living through it, but everyones attitude is just 'that's how things are', honestly i can't wait til the day i'm in my 30's / 40's and all this nonsense is over with.
Uh, Noir, try a Christian young singles church group. :) The ones I know have lots of fun without the partying and sex.

How about older girls who are over the partying or possibly girls in athletics who are concerned with healthy living.

Indeedy, i don't know how old i would have to be looking lol, certainly well into mid-tewnties, though i do agree with you on the athletics point (which ofcourse Savannah is), the problem is moreso finding them,
