Major rain storm here in NY and my house has had enough water already. Basement is under water again, hot water heater under water, heat gone, same damn thing again! Here's a few pictures, and there are like another 12 hours of rain left. This is with 2 pumps in our basement, 2 in the garage, and 2 on the side of the house. It's filling quicker than we can pump it.

Here's the view out my back window from my computer room on the 2nd floor:

I've only had a flood once, State Farm came out and the adjuster handed me a check for $10k, the highest limit available by rider. He said, 'Sorry, this won't cover the damages.' No joke.

Sorry Jim, it does suck.

FYI------anyone planning on a Red Cross donation for ANY disaster like this can earmark it for a SPECIFIC incident and area. For example on a check you can write--for April Floods in NYC. Your donation MUST be used for what you specify.

Ever since I was involved in a flood, Salvation Army is my #1 charity. Red Cross, close 2nd.

Jim..what you've gone through the last couple of months..You should look into every charity ya can....Even talk to a tax person for next year when claiming..or declaring something.

Every cleaning product..and even food..keep the dam receipts.

This is a natural disater being struck twice with this shit...

Red Cross & Salvation Army should cut your ass a check...Call em when this is over!!

With the luck people have now days...and facing a 2nd time around with this crap...Dam..:(

Hope the pumps are working....

I'm now worried about your home...2nd time around...

I agree. Floods are just so much better than fires, but that's the best to be said of them.

I spent over $5k a few years ago, for dual pumps, over 18 hours of non-electric time to keep the basement flood proof. I don't know that it would help in what Jim is going through. Double loss.

Whatever the Red Cross gives you will depend on the damage you recieved, what you lost and the amount of money that is donated for the specific incident. By all means CALL the local Red Cross chapter----the more that call, the bigger the response will be in your area. It's not an IMMEDIATE rescue job but it helps !!!! Red Cross is NOT a charity---it is an organization with a mandate from congress to respond to people who are victims of disasters. It doesn't make you some cheap ass welfare case.

Jim -

Sure wish you could have made it down here, not like it's not pouring, but we at least have no flooding - yet! We just came back from trying to take Sara home - we meet her mom in South Brunswick. We made it to the spot okay, but Heidi couldn't get through, so we decided to drive further south, and all of a sudden route #1 was closed in both directions. So Sara will be spending the night here again, and missing a days school tomorrow!

Is this an area wide flood or just your property?

Here's some afterwards pictures from this morning. Got about 4ft in the basement as usual, and the pumps now got it about 8 inches lower since it stopped raining.

A view from my 2nd floor computer room to backyard:
