I came down 85 threw SC today and noticed from Gaffney down to Greenville there were cops , fire engines and ambulances on all the bridges over the North bound side, there were American flags flying on every bridge there were also many people on the bridges and some on the Highway all to Honor a fallen soldier who died in Afghanistan , It made me extremely proud to be a American and to know there are those who still care in this country


May this young man rest in peace

And may his family get threw this bad time and may they also realize how many people such as myself are touched by this man's ultimate sacrifice

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- A Marine from Gaffney who died after an attack in Afghanistan returned home on Wednesday with military honors.

The body of 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Christopher S. Fowlkes arrived at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport at about 3 p.m. Fowlkes died on Sept. 10 at a military hospital in Germany, where he had been treated for injuries from an explosion earlier in the week in Helmand province.

On Wednesday, an honor guard lifted Fowlkes flag-draped casket from an airplane to a waiting hearse. Family and friends took part in a brief homecoming service, as well.

Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office then escorted the casket from the airport to Blakley’s Funeral home in Gaffney. Flags were placed in various locations along the route the procession took in honor of the fallen Marine.

Fowlkes was assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp in Lejeune, N.C.

Fowlkes’ family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home and a memorial service will be held on Friday.

This caused quite a stir in the local news, I myself feel the news coverage should of been Nationwide, BOA called it a misunderstanding, Bull shit, if they want to be called the Bank Of America they ought to be flying the flag anyway

I agree with ya Gabby, if ya remember after 9/11 when all those hero's worked so hard to save those that they could and many of them lost there lives this country actually was patriotic again, if only for a short bit, but the flag meant something then, and your right, those that do there jobs here working so hard to serve and protect , deserve to be treated the same

I have had the sad opportunity to attend the funerals of two law enforcement professionals I had previously worked with. On both occasions, flags were flown in their honor. It wouldn't have seemed right had that not been the case.

When I was a kid I went to a cops funeral, he was trying to save a little girl and her brother from a flood, he lost his life that day, as did the young girl, there was a flag there, I can barley remember , but he was given a Hero's burial, and he deserved it

They are truly hero's. Our troops and our public safety professionals all have in common the fact they are generally overworked, under paid and not appreciated nearly enough. The least we can do is honor them for their selfless sacrifice.

It is sad to see public service politicized on this site so that career public servants are denigrated simply because their current political philosophy does not comport with the prevailing hard core conservative mindset.
