Most of the coverage in the liberal media "reports" the crowd in the "tens of thousands" when the number is closer to 2 MILLION

The liberal media is trying to downplay the turnout - but the messaage is clear

Here is a CNN reporter VS real community organizers

I am watching CSPAN this morning, and so far the 2 liberal callers have played the race card calling the people there racists. They are saying 99% of Americans have gotten tax cuts (really - must have missed mine) and how Obamacare will save them money

One caller said the left never protested Pres Bush and set out to work with him when he took office.

When facts get in their way, libs lie and try to rewrite history

James, the turnout was much higher then anyone thought. Since you are waiting for your handout and someone to finance your healthcare plan - I did not expect you to support these people who are fed up with the Dems pissing thru their tax money

The Hitler and impeachment signs were over the top - but the rest were pretty much spot on

Funny how dissent is not cool now and example of patriotic Americans. Only racists and paid hacks from ins companies are out in the streets according to the libs

MAybe they do not like the direction the Eems are taking America. Dems took over Congress in 2006 and lets look what has happened over the last year

Sept 2009 Sept 2008

Dow 9605 Dow 11421

Unemployment 9.7% Unemployment 6.2%

GDP is down 3.9% in the last year

Home values are down 15.1% in the last year

So the Dems have not provided the leadership and polices to grow the economy - now they have to try and pass the buck and smear anyone whop speaks out

Try reading the text of the speech he gave went he went to visit the Muslims when he first got elected. While I agree with him, it goes 100% against the stuff you claim.

I do find it hilarious though that you all of a sudden don't have an issue with your beliefs because someone is an "elected official". Not very solid on your beliefs, eh?

But anyway, my point is that you decided to frown upon the messages of those at the protests - and yet you basically would prefer Muslims wiped off the face of the earth according to other threads.

I didn't see too many media outlets but in fairness there were too many people there to make that call. We were somewhere in the middle of the crowd (multitude). I can tell you there were about 30 pro Obama activists in total. I saw so many clever signs that people made up. One lady wore a black cloak carrying a sign that read "Journalism Died In 2008" another one said "Joe Wilson next time throw A shoe". Nearly everyone there had anti Socialism, anti Marxism signs. This was the beginning of a revolution to save the republic from big government, all other spin is bullshit. We met true liberals who were terrified of the loss of free speech and government intrusion into their lives. Trust me when I tell you this was a totally non partisan protest. I think the flag that summed up the event was "Don't Tread On Me" which is the one I carried since it says exactly what I wanted to say. What a feeling of unity and happiness that we all came together in unity to take a stand. I can't wait for the next one!

So what about his speech? Was it nothing more than a pack of lies that he spoke of? If you say you respect him as elected president, how do you again reconcile the respect with your own beliefs on the subject?

I completely understand that I won't be changing your mind. It always saddens me when someone refuses to be open about a debate and have their minds already made up based on hearsay, opinion columns & fear. Your hatred/contempt for Muslims and the Quran just doesn't add up. If it were aimed towards terrorists, radicals and those wishing to take a violent position, I could understand. But you seem hell bent on accusing millions of being bad people that have done nothing to deserve that tag.

Millions? Where did you get that from? :lmao:

Even the New York Post, the most conservative of all media sources, estimated the crowd in the "tens of thousands."
The most common estimate was 40-50,000.

AAAAA Gabby all of a sudden knows the difference between a Liberal and Conservative paper, or so she thinks

Wasn't she asking just a few weeks ago what makes the LA times a liberal paper??? Me thinks she is spewing shit just to run her mouth

Sorry bout that,

1. Where is it?
2. Anyways, he isn't a muslim, but if he someday comes out and claims hes going to convert it muslim, then I will be the first to ask for him to step down.
3. Then I will bash the hell out of him.
4. I respect the highest office of the land, if its some other office, I have no respect for a muslim, whatsoever.
5. The protests were beggerly, and gutter in form, I cant respect that, I take issue with it.

Regards,
SirJamesofTexas

Actually most of the signs there are fairly accurate given that Obama is a Marxist, excuse me fascist... so let's just say instead of "gutter signs" we label them raw, passionate, and truthful. In fact I will go so far as to say they must be truthful based upon the reaction of the media attempting to shame any protester against Obama as racist, uninformed, hateful and my favorite rabid. Like it or not there were a million plus people there, and you can rest assured that number will grow signs and all,

I have to admit that I am grateful to Obama as it is him and his Marxist minions that have not only awakened the sleeping giant but has brought the sleeping giant to start a second revolution in this country to save our republic. My only regret is that it took things to go this far.

I watched the event on streaming video yesterday and it was one of the most heartening things I've seen in a very long time. I have watched in my lifetime as those those had little freedom gained freedom. Then I watched as our freedom was pulled out from under us all; first, a little at a time, then in leaps and bounds, and now it just feels good to see my fellow citizens stand up and cry foul. :salute:

Gabby, look at the pictures again. See that first little blotch of folks in between the buildings on the street? That is One hundred thousand! Now, since there are about 16 to 20 times that there, I would place the number at somewhere around 1.5 to 2 million. Now I know you hate this, but it is so.

I can't tell you how fantastic it was to be there and be part of a new revolution FOR Good!! Something very important that some liberals especially in the media Do Not Get and maybe never will is that this whole movement has been years percolating by the majority of people that don't have the time to devote to political involvement due to work, kids, etc. This wasn't a rebuke of Obama but very specifically what Obama has come to represent which is the rapid evaporation of most of our freedom at the hands of a few elites who think we are their children, their workers, and their property. Most importantly this was a fiery passionate reaffirmation of GOD given freedoms. Because of that the course of history has now been set in motion to change, and as long as we stand resolute we will all win.

I'm sure it was exhilarating! I think we've all felt so beaten down by the system for so long that it just took a while to get geared up. Seeing the huge crowd displaying the same kind of spirit that made this great country an independent nation in the first place was amazing, even from a distance. We just have to build the momentum to an ever ascending level until we achieve the reclamation of all the freedom to which we are entitled. :salute:

and now the DC Police say the crowd was over 1 million. The Dems were warned about the number of people who could, and did show up

snip

The crowd was made up of Republicans, Independents and Democrats and not only from across the political spectrum, but young and old – black and white – male and female. The protesters expressed their distrust in unaccountable lawmakers who now regularly pass bills in the middle of the night. Bills that are created by special interest organizations residing outside of the government. Bills passed without sufficient time for legislators to read or analyze the spending mandates of unparalleled size.

Even though Local police agencies estimated around 1.2 million in attendance, many detractors wish to diffuse the impact of such a large turnout that presented a loud and clear message of “hands off,” from the American people. Individuals angered with the march's success have claimed online that the number of attendees ranged from “a couple hundred to maybe a couple thousand,” while some expressed that the protest fell short of its “opposition created,” 2 million attendee expectation.

In a memo to fellow Democrats a top aide to Nancy Pelosi warned that up to 2 million people could potentially attend. The memo was most surely created for the intended purpose of being leaked; utilizing a time-tested political tactic, utilizing a groups own inertia against itself. The idea being to suggest and encourage belief in unrealistic expectations, and when those expectations are not met media sources and participants alike will claim failure of the movement.

The left blogosphere has, in mass, seized upon the figure to demean event attendance, but falls well short in it's understanding of the events success. The goals envisioned by protest organizers were two-fold; express to the lawmakers that we are here and watching, and affirm to themselves that they are a power to be reckoned with.

On the eve of the march, the Obama administration claimed that they had no idea that a rally was planned for the following day. This is most certainly untrue; The Secret Service was aware, the Speaker of the House was aware and gave warning in a memo, the Capitol police were prepared for the march, a permit was acquired that assumed an enormous number of attendees, and as the Whitehouse watches the Glenn Beck television program (they call-in during the show to ask the host to alter his language), the administration's statement is unquestionably apocryphal and only represents another in a long line of manufactured falsehoods that the American people have come to expect from this Whitehouse.

I'm not 100% sold on the "millions" estimate, but there was most certainly well over 100-200k there. I have watched extensive footage and read just about every article imaginable, from both right and left sources. From prior events, put up against the many videos and photos of how much space was taken up - I would estimate easily over 400k attended.

The last time the National Park Service was allowed to make an official estimate was for the Million Man March, and they estimated 400,000. 9/12 demonstration a record DC turnout: National Park Service

Thomas Lifson
The truth will out. Despite mainstream media attempts to characterize turnout as in the thousands, a spokesman for the National Park Service, Dan Bana, is quoted as saying "It is a record.... We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever."

Democrats and their media acolytes may wish this weren't so, and they may even employ the Ostrich Strategy, burying their collective heads in the sand, pretending that a major important political movement isn't happening. But they only hasten their own demise in doing so.

Meanwhile, Gateway Pundit compares the littler left behind on 9/12 with the aftermath of the Obama inauguration. It is a startling contrast.

Leftwing Blogosphere Dreams Up Bizarre Conspiracy Theories to Explain Away DC 9/12 Time Lapse Video
By P.J. Gladnick (Bio | Archive)
September 14, 2009 - 21:41 ET

The leftwing blogosphere has been trying to convince themselves and others that the attendance at the 9/12 Washington, D.C. Tea Party was fairly small. However, there is one really big problem for them. How to explain away a highly inconvenient time lapse video from a camera showing massive numbers of Tea Party folks parading down Pennsylvania Avenue (video below the fold). The way they get around to explaining away what our lyin' eyes tell us on that video is to devise the most hilarious set of conspiracy theories you can imagine.

Why is flag in the video at half staff? How come it is suddenly at full staff? Why does a man appear and suddenly disappear in the video? The flag flap doesn't match the wind speed. Etc., etc., etc..

<center><a href=http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2009/09/14/march/index.html>How did the 9/12 protest crowd compare?</a></center>

<center><a href=http://mediamatters.org/columns/200909140039>Michelle Malkin and the anatomy of the 2 million protester lie</a></center>

<blockquote>According to estimates provided by the Washington, D.C., fire department, Malkin and friends were only off by 1,930,000 people. In other words, Malkin, citing fictitious press accounts, led the charge to falsely inflate the size of the crowd by 30 times. Malkin and company, desperate to dress up the tea party event as a mass movement, saw a relatively modest crowd of 70,000 GOP protesters and imagined it was 2 million strong. (She's a dreamer, I suppose.)

Worse, Malkin spent most of Saturday in denial, refusing to update her transparently false report, which meant the rest of the right-wing blogosphere also played dumb on a massive scale and kept excitedly repeating the manufactured claim. The scary part is that within the fact-free conservative blogosphere, lots of people still believe the 2 million nonsense, or are at least repeating it. They believe it despite the fact that <b><i>nobody</i> can point to any evidence to support it</b>.</blockquote>

If they'd been able to sterilize all those folks, notable for their absence of anyone of color, the gene-pool in this nation would have benefited for generations to come. If your intransigence weren't so pathetic, it would be hilarious.

I've not seen any estimates regarding the number of people that showed up around the country last Saturday, just the ongoing debate on numbers in DC. Take all the venues together, guaranteed there were over 3.5 million. That's what you are ignoring, Bully. Which members of Congress, not just Blue Dogs, have noticed. :cuckoo: These people are ignored at your party's peril.

Over 1500 showed up for my county's. In the very 'blue' state of ILLINOIS.

A REVOLUTIONARY IDEA
Just how many marched on D.C.?
Estimates start at 60,000, rise to as high as 2 million

Just how many people turned out at the Sept. 12 march on Washington?

Politifact reported that Pete Piringer, public affairs officer for the Washington, D.C., Fire and Emergency Department "unofficially" estimated that between 60,000 and 75,000 people attended the march.

Officers with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department told WND the department does not provide crowd estimates. Capitol police declined to comment.

However, Wizbang estimated between 500,000 and 1 million. The blog displays the following time-lapse image of the march:

BP is all upset because now the people are turning on Obama, Reid, pelosi, and their tax and spend policies

Protests were cool when Bush was President. Dissent was patriotic when you spoke out against the Republicans. You were a patriotic when you opposed polices proposed by the Bush administration

Now if you dare to speak out while Dems are in charge - well you are a Nazi. You are a racist. You can't accept a black man as President. You are a loon. In BP's world these people must be silenced. They must be smeared

All that matters to people like BP, Virgil, and Gabby is one thing and one thing only. More power for the Democrat party.

They honestly do not give a rats ass about how Obama's polices will harm the US economy. They do not care how many people will be put out of work. They do not care ow much more in taxes they wil suck out our pockets. They do not care how much more in debt they will put the nation and force our great great grandchildren to pay

All they want is bigger government. More entitement programs. More people looking to government for their wants, need, and desires. More people is misery and who are willing to turn over more of their lives to government control

The people who turned out on 9/12 are a threat to their agenda. Rather then try to talk to them and admit a growing part of the population is losing trust and faith in the Dems - they lash out in anger and outrage

Agnapostate
09-16-2009, 01:14 AM
I did, but why are you derailing threads with obsession about that? My focus here was on rebuttal of the "government = socialism" fallacy, typically used to falsely associate liberalism with socialism. Liberalism and socialism are in fact antithetical because of the role of the welfare state in maintaining macroeconomic stabilization in general and sustaining the physical efficiency and employment of the working class, the latter constituting a sustainment of static efficiency. This role occurs in the context of the capitalist economy, which means that the welfare state is supporting the existence of the prevailing arrangement of the private ownership of the means of production. It's therefore ironically economic rightists who are greater allies of socialists, as their favored policies will destabilize capitalism.

emmett

And your thread related to the number of people at the rally in Washington how again? Because that is what the thread was about. I simply jumped off of the train with you. LOL.

Look man....I'm fascinated at your historical knowledge of politics, culture and so forth. Of course to communicate with the average person you will need to tune down the vocab for us dummies a bit. I love it when folks talk in hard to understand vocabulary as a way of thinking they can push across apoint without rebuking. Fact is you lose people's interest.

The robot society you envision would be great if everybody participated however for a system like what you speak of to be effiecient, everybody would have to work.....not happening in this country pal. We have folks who have become addicted to freebies and handouts and they aren't going to lift a finger unless they have to. In this perfect Socialist Libertarian society you speak of, what happens to them?

Agnapostate

This has nothing to do with libertarianism or socialism. That was exactly my point; I was responding to the inaccurate rightist mention of socialism, or worse, Marxism, in response to the liberal democratic capitalism of the present administration. It's an abuse of accurate terminology.

the issues that instigated the protests are the issues of the people who LOST the election. They are upset about the direction the country is moving, and I understand that. I am not smearing them... I merely point out that elections have consequences. When you WIN, you have AT LEAST two years to do as much of the stuff that you campaigned on that you can get passed. If those initiatives piss off the opposition enough so that they can mobilize themselves and win the NEXT election, then they get to have their turn... and so it goes.

First, I don't recall accussing you personally of anything.

Second, part of the problem is that elections do indeed have consequences and winning elections do as well. Part of winning an election (at least in my opinion) is the assumption of responsibility for the welfgare of this nation ... both short term and long term.

Third, it would all work just fine if our elected officials would truly have the welfare of this nation as an objective instead of the retention of power. I dont think EITHER party has made a reasonable case that their particular agenda is what is best for the citizens of this country.

Fourth, politician's (of all stripes) first act in office, once winning an election is to begin campaigning for the next election and that to me is just plain wrong.

The "mainstream media" is no more mainstream than the left they serve. They report the world as they WANT it to be seen. They have completely botched it in just the past few weeks, ignoring two huge stories, Van Jones and ACORN. And they look like fools.

A lot of the mainstream world watches network news because that's all they really know. That's what they've always watched. Some of them have never even been online, much less own a computer. As strange as it seems to me, I know a few people like that. They don't get the news the left media distorts or doesn't tell them through other sources online. You didn't hear about it because the media didn't want to report on it. It's that simple.

Why would they do that?

The media love disasters. There's nothing which increases viewership like a good disaster.

You just keep calling everyone that is in opposition to your stance a moron; I'm sure it helps insulate you from reality.

No, I call them morons because it's easier than all the keying I'd have to do to call them call them "persons suffering from WMD (willful mass delusion) and GOP (general obstruction pathology.)"

Most of the coverage in the liberal media "reports" the crowd in the "tens of thousands" when the number is closer to 2 MILLION

The liberal media is trying to downplay the turnout - but the messaage is clear

Barry's crowd of dildos, that showed up to witness his inauguration, left 130 tons of trash behind including their trashing of American flags that they threw to the ground and walked on. Now we have this from METRO. Any comment from the Obama drones?

Metro Delivers Hundreds of Thousands to 9/12 Rally

Posted September 15th, 2009 at 4.58pm

Much has been made over the attendance at the march and rally in DC on September 12. Reports varied, with many on the left clinging to an unofficial DC Fire Department estimate of 60,000 to 70,000. Some reports from overseas went as far as to say two million. However, one completely objective source of information is the number of people who rode Metro, Washington, DC’s mass transit subway system. Washington Metro measures and releases its ridership numbers and these numbers have been used in the past to judge the size of major events in Washington, DC.

For a fair comparison, we looked at the Saturday after Labor Day in 2008, which is when September 12 fell in 2009. On September 12, 2009, 437,624 rode metro rail. By comparison, on the Saturday after Labor Day in 2008, 202,528 rode. The difference is 235,096. Even if nobody else came to the March, and we know they did by chartered bus and by carpool, the theory that only 70,000 people were there is off by roughly 335% - debunking the 70,000 claim. To take it a step further for comparison, we also looked at the attendance for President Obama’s Inauguration in January 2009. Convential wisdom estimates that attendance for the inaugural was between 800,000 and 1.8 million, or an average of 1.3 million.
If you compare Metro riders on Martin Luther King Day 2008, the similarly situated federal holiday in January to the Inauguration in 2009, approximately 975,000 additional people rode metro for the Inauguration. If you compare 975,000 additional metro riders as a percentage of the 1.3 million total who attended and you do the same for 235,000 additional metro riders for the 9/12 March, than at least 313,000 went downtown for the explicit purpose of marching against out-of-control government spending on September 12. This assumes a similar percentage of attendees took buses, cabs, drove in, walked, etc.

If you believe the number was 1.8 million at the Inauguration and you do the same for 9/12, then the number is 433,000. So is an estimate of 313,000 to 433,000 attendees accurate? Well, it is certainly an unbiased and impartial start to understanding the debate over crowd size. The bottom line is that hundreds of thousands of Americans who were upset with government spending, a failed stimulus, a government takeover of health care, and a massive energy tax came with their parents, children, grandparents, cousins, college roommates, etc. to a multi-generational and peaceful family protest in Washington.

no need to prove anything. Anyone who has ever REALLY walked on the National Mall AND walked across Pennsylvania Avenue would never suggest that the two were within 20 feet of being the same width... which shows your second statement to be a lie.

National Park Service Says 9/12 Turnout A Record

9/12 demonstration a record DC turnout: National Park Service

Thomas Lifson

The truth will out. Despite mainstream media attempts to characterize turnout as in the thousands, a spokesman for the National Park Service, Dan Bana, is quoted as saying "It is a record.... We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever."

Democrats and their media acolytes may wish this weren't so, and they may even employ the Ostrich Strategy, burying their collective heads in the sand, pretending that a major important political movement isn't happening. But they only hasten their own demise in doing so.

But they only hasten their own demise in doing so.

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/09/912_demonstration_a_record_dc.html

Dan Bana?????

Do you think he was wearing a bandanna when he made that statement?

http://mediamatters.org/blog/200909150013

"Several conservative blogs have been quoting National Park Service spokesman "Dan Bana" as saying the 9/12 protest was "the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever." This appears to be a repurposing of this quote from David Barna (who, unlike Dan Bana, appears to be a real person):

David Barna, a Park Service spokesman, said the agency did not conduct its own count. Instead, it will use a Washington Post account that said 1.8 million people gathered on the US Capitol grounds, National Mall, and parade route.

"It is a record," Barna said. "We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever."

Very impressive! Unfortunately, as Little Green Footballs pointed out, that quote was actually about the inauguration:

This is so pathetic I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Dozens - if not hundreds - of right wing blogs are running with this quote, portraying it as a statement about the tea party held last weekend: 'We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.'

The quote is from January. The National Park Service spokesman was talking about Barack Obama's inauguration."

Dan Bana! What a hoot!:laugh2:

Islam's history is about killing and converting, of conquest and annihilation

that is the truth, whether you want to believe it or not

now, does that make all muslims terrorists or bad. Absolutely not, but i dont trust their religion and i do think we should monitor all mosques.

But you seem hell bent on accusing millions of being bad people that have done nothing to deserve that tag.

no need to prove anything. Anyone who has ever REALLY walked on the National Mall AND walked across Pennsylvania Avenue would never suggest that the two were within 20 feet of being the same width... which shows your second statement to be a lie.

And again... you weird internet stalker.... if you could see my house today, you would KNOW that the images on Google are extremely dated, and since itwas YOU who brought them up, then are hardly irrelevant. In other words, you have no basis at all for your claims, while I have photographic evidence.

Don't expect head count for inaugural
Though it may be a record crowd, no official attendance count is planned

WASHINGTON - Even if it looks to be a record crowd at Barack Obama's inauguration, don't expect an official head count for history.

A million or more people may show up on the National Mall and along the parade route for the inauguration of the country's first black president, federal and local authorities predict. But officials have no plans to release turnout estimates that day — or any day, for that matter.

"It's a shame," said David Barna, spokesman for the National Park Service. "From a historical standpoint, it's good for America to know the size of the events."

The National Park Service says it will rely on a media report that says 1.8 million people attended President Obama's inauguration.

David Barna, a Park Service spokesman, said the agency did not conduct its own count. Instead, it will use a Washington Post account that said 1.8 million people gathered on the US Capitol grounds, National Mall, and parade route.

I can't speak for every Islamic country, and I really would rather go watch red sox baseball than do a bunch of online research, but I know for a fact that Christians can practice openly in Lebanon and in Jordan and in Egypt. I have been to churches in all three countries. I know that there are Christians in Iraq and in Iran and Syria... I know that there are Jews in Iran....

the point is: looking back at the beginnings of Islam shows you a violent religion. Today, the VAST majority of muslims are quite peaceful.
