TOLEDO, Ohio - Although not outlined in the city charter, a city memo has allowed workers with the city of Toledo’s Division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor to issue parking citations to citizens.

It was learned over the weekend that Susan Frederick, acting commissioner with streets, bridges and harbor, fined several motorists for parking in their driveways on Holland-Sylvania near Dorr Street.

"I've lived here 43 years and last Thursday we had our 44th wedding anniversary," said Charles Robertson, who received a parking violation. "I got a present from the city. Isn't that nice?"

Residents' vehicles were parked on a turn-around portion of their driveway in front of their property, something they need to safely get out of their drive on Holland-Sylvania, which, at times, can be busy.

Megan Robson, spokesperson for Mayor Carty Finkbeiner, released a statement to the media Monday evening.

I heard about one guy getting tickets for parking in his gravel (unpaved) driveway. Wasn't paved, you see...therefore illegal to park there. :(

GAWD I LOVE DA SOUTH! You can park in yer front yard if ya want and even put er on blocks right side the old Maytag! Yanks are strange folk.

Your talking about ohio here. The state famous for stealing money, investing in art work with public funds, taxing everything and anything at a whim and standing firm against gambling casinos that would bring in a tax windfall. The farther north you go in ohio, the stupider the people become. Though the really stupid migrate to columbus and work for the state.

Only in toledo would transportation workers be empowered to write parking tickets.

Hope they dont start doing this around here. I dont think i could afford parking in my driveway then.

Well, I'm a yankee and I can park in my own damn driveway. Both of them. And you know what? So can all visitors to my abode. It's a money thing. Always about the money. They were greedy and wanted more. :lame2:

I think you use "greedy" too much and don't really know what it means. :rolleyes:
