A dangerous pastime, I know.
I was just thinking how many interesting things there are in this world. Maybe I've been in a rut for a while, but I had my interests before, its just now they are so much broader. Thing is, Im not sure where to even begin with them.
I like learning things, just for the sake of learning them. I've been reading a bunch of books on alternative medicine, meditation, writing, etc. Not really subjects I was interested in the past. It's interesting to see what people are saying even when I am not totally sure I buy everything.
How can people choose to not learn things? Why are people afraid to learn truth? It just doesnt make sense to me. There are so many things to learn out there. So many good things, how could you not devote a life time to learn everything?

You know what I was thinking? You see and hear all those commercials for Viagra and Cialis and such, and they all say, "If you have an erection for more than four hours, contact a physician."
I was thinking...
Who the hell determined that anerection lastin three hours and fifty nine minutes was okay, but four hours and one minute wasn't?

Probably the same idiots who determined if you are 17 years and 364 days 23 hours and 59 minutes your a minor. But as soon as you hit 18 your an adult. What happens in that 1 minute that takes you from minor to adult?

I am the same way, although there does have to be a little bit of an interest in the topic for me.

Very interesting post! In recent years i seem to be going through a transition of sorts myself. History being foremost. Religion in there too. Fascinating subjects. Everything however is just more interesting. I write it off to maturity Avatar, and here is the rest of my take on it.
After reaching a certain age, we all tend to do a little more of this. Some more..some less. It's a coming of age thing. My mother, up until she died a few years ago spent her entire life studying almost like a college student cramming for an exam. I always thought it compulsive behavior myself. She hardly went anywhere, just read constantly. Of course the internet wasn't available for most of her life so the house was literally covered with books. She could quote case law, cure diseases, and had an opinion of great insight on just about anything. As I aged I became fascinated with her braod range of knowledge on just about any subject known to man. She could even tell you the starting line up of any team in the 20th century. It was amazing.
Now while I admit that that was a bit out there, I find myself doing the same thing at 50 yrs old. Alot of mine comes from questions I have about how history has recorded some details. e.g: The Tesla thread I started the other day. I've become engulfed in personally investigating supposed facts of history.
Great thread Avie!
