View Full Version : Dodd admits he lied about bonus loophole
Dodd facing fresh political firestorm
Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) looks like he may be facing a fresh political firestorm.
Dodd just admitted on CNN that he inserted a loophole in the stimulus legislation that allowed million-dollar bonuses to insurance giant AIG to go forward – after previously denying any involvement in writing the controversial provision. .
“We wrote the language in the bill, the deal with bonuses, golden parachutes, excessive executive compensation that was adopted unanimously by the United States Senate in the stimulus bill,” Dodd told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer this afternoon.
“But for that language, there would have been no language to deal with this at all.”
Dodd had previously said that he played no role in writing the controversial language, and was not a part of the conference committee that inserted the language in the bill. As late as today, Dodd’s spokeswoman denied the senator’s involvement.

Woohoo! What could be more fun to a Dem than doling out other people's money?
Maybe cheating with interns? Or cheating drunk with young girls who then drown?
Ooh, I have it: cheating and drinking and partying with other people's money.

Dodd is one of the worst. Surprisingly though he may have been telling a partial truth in the past 24 hours:

Geithner: Treasury pushed for bonus loophole
Posted: 04:25 PM ET
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told CNN Thursday his department asked Sen. Chris Dodd to include a loophole in the stimulus bill allowing bonuses to be paid.
(CNN) — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told CNN Thursday his department asked Sen. Chris Dodd to include a loophole in the stimulus bill that allowed bailed-out insurance giant American International Group to keep its bonuses.
In an interview with CNN's Ali Velshi, Geithner said the Treasury Department was particularly concerned the government would face lawsuits if bonus contracts were breached.
Watch: Geithner on AIG bonuses
Dodd admitted to CNN Wednesday he'd added the controversial provision after a Treasury official pushed for it. Earlier in the week, Dodd had said he had not played any role in the addition of the loophole.
Geithner told Velshi Thursday he takes full responsibility for the situation.
Also in the interview, airing in part at 5 pm ET on CNN, Geithner said:

I can't believe you would stoop so low as to mention that simple car accident experienced by Teddy when he over corrected his steering path while attepting to navigate his way over that bridge!!!!!! It ain't easy to drive that fast when you only have one hand on the wheel and I lodged between.....well...never mind! That was a zillion years ago too Abbey! Why do we have to hash that out now! See.... that;s how you republican types are!!!
You could have mentioned another of the relatives of that fine family and their driving into barriers in downtown DC, which would have been recent news...but NOooo!
Next you'll be wanting to revisit how that young girl turned up dead after a date with his nephew and her head caved in by Teddy's 7 iron!
Just despicable!

So this is the Faith, Hope and Change that Obama was talking about bringing to Washington. The faith is that one day the administration will actually get something right. The hope is that the democrats will be able to continue fooling people so that they can keep getting elected. And the change is that all the corruption has moved from the Republican Party to the Democrat Party.
