It is sad to see the Dems, some RINO's, and the liberal media actually try to sell this mego pork bill as a savior of the economy
Some people actually think projects like this will jolt the economy back on its feet
Pelosi's mouse slated for $30M slice of cheese
Talk about a pet project. A tiny mouse with the longtime backing of a political giant may soon reap the benefits of the economic stimulus package.
Lawmakers and administration officials divulged Wednesday that the $789 billion economic stimulus bill being finalized behind closed doors in Congress includes $30 million for wetlands restoration that the Obama administration intends to spend in the San Francisco Bay Area to protect, among other things, the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse.
The revelation immediately became a political football, as Republicans accused Democrats of reneging on a promise to keep so-called earmarks that fund lawmakers' favorite projects out of the legislation. Democrats, including Mrs. Pelosi, countered that the accusations were fabricated.
Politics aside, the episode demonstrates that no matter how hard lawmakers argue that they technically lived up to their pledge to keep specific projects from being listed in the bill, there is little stopping the federal money from going to those projects after the legislation passes and federal and state agencies begin deciding where to spend their newfound dollars.
Programs for sexually transmitted diseases, smoking prevention, a clean-burning power plant and a computer center also appear ready to get infusions of money once the bill becomes law, congressional offices told The Washington Times.
"One of the proudest boasts of Democrats supporting their trillion-dollar spending plan is that it doesn't contain earmarks. But it seems like powerful Democrats will still find a way to bring home the bacon," said a frustrated Michael Steel, spokesman for House Republican Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio who took direct aim at the mouse.
"This certainly doesn't sound like it will create or save American jobs," Mr. Steel said. "So can Speaker Pelosi explain exactly how we will improve the American economy by helping the adorable little" critter?

The kind of 'project' described in the op sounds suspiciously like an 'earmark', something that was supposedly absent from this 'stimulus' bill. Many of us will probably be wishing we were a mouse in Pelosi's neck of the woods, before the stimulus 'works it's magic.' Sigh.

Think about all the people whose lives could have been positively impacted by using the $30 million to create jobs, or cut their taxes
Its apparent that endangered vermin means more to Ms. Pelosi than actual human beings
Remember, both Pres Obama, and Ms Pelosi have told us over and over there is no pork in this bill

The Washington Times, on the other hand receives funding from Sung Myung Moon, and is a well know right-wing media outlet. Hell, there isn't even funding for a wetlands restoration project in San Francisco...a complete fabrication that.

Congressional Offices Don't Have the Stimulus Bill, Lobbyists Do
February 12, 2009 04:14 PM ET | Paul Bedard | Permanent Link | Print
By Paul Bedard, Washington Whispers
We're receiving E-mails from Capitol Hill staffers expressing frustration that they can't get a copy of the stimulus bill agreed to last night at a price of $789 billion. What's more, staffers are complaining about who does have a copy: K Street lobbyists. E-mails one key Democratic staffer: "K Street has the bill, or chunks of it, already, and the congressional offices don't. So, the Hill is getting calls from the press (because it's leaking out) asking us to confirm or talk about what we know—but we can't do that because we haven't seen the bill. Anyway, peeps up here are sort of a combo of confused and like, 'Is this really happening?'" Reporters pressing for details, meanwhile, are getting different numbers from different offices, especially when seeking the details of specific programs.
Worse, there seem to be several different versions of what was agreed upon, with some officials circulating older versions of the package that seems to still be developing. Leadership aides said that it will work out later today and promised that lawmakers will get time to review the bill before Friday's vote.
Sure they will, nearly 1450 pages and counting...

Bully, you and all of us know the problem with 'no specific language.' GAG ME.
And what problem might that be? There is no language providing funds for "saving mice". The California Coastal Conservancy would like the money, but there is no assurance they're going to get it. And what if there was such language? People would be employed to restore an ecosystem damaged in the blind pursuit of profit. Those people would then be able to buy goods and services which would, in turn, lead to employment for those supplying those goods and services. That's the amplifying effect that govenrnment spending on infrastructure has.
Again, where were you, when the Bush administration was racking up the $1 trillion deficit they left behind? I didn't see your protestations about leaving future generations a mountain of debt then.
