Dear Liberals: We want a divorce

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, and Obama supporters..

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know, we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but, sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot, and will not ever agree on what is right, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences, and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friend ly agr eement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O’Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them) .

We’ll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s, and rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks, and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.

We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClaine. You can also have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill.

We’ll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We’ll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya", or "We Are the World".

We’ll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you we’ll keep our history, our name, and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots, and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

I contemplated dividing the country on the board (or USMB) a long time ago! I joked about which side would be invaded, and which side would collapse from overwhelming social programs and a lack of a tax base to fund them. Funny thing, it's not so funny anymore. We are practically there now without separating. On both counts.

america is an interesting concept. competing idealogues seemingly live side by side and when the votes come in, a peaceful transition is made. this is a rare form of government in the world's history. where we are supposedly governed by our will and not that of a tyrant or king.

Tongue 'n' cheek yes, but one thing that always bugs me about these kinds of things is... who has to move? I'm basically conservative and would put myself in the conservative side of that agreement and live in the South. Good for me as my guess is since the South is mostly seen as conservative the libs would probably not want it anyway. But I was born and raised in California and that is still my native land and regardless of the morons who control it today, I still love California.

Anyway, how the heck could we possibly consider dividing up our country in such a manner? There are conservatives who live in the Northeast. Do they lose their homes and are forced to move South because of this "arrangement". How about the liberals in the South? Do we run them out on a rail?

I've got a better idea... let's just send the career politicians back to their homes and get them out of our government and let America be led by Americans who care about America rather than power, greed and corruption. I will gladly be a neighbor to a liberal as long as that liberal is not a politician.

I've seen the same at work, mostly the other teachers are liberal, yet they respect me and my opinions. It's how our country, flaws and all, works.

Saw this link to another site on another political site. I'm sure you post there as well, but your post made me think of the video in it. As I watched the video, I thought of America the Beautiful. I thought of how great it is that we can live in a land where conservatives and liberals live as neighbors and despite political beliefs we love and take care of each other.

The point of the OP, was to point out that a society living by what conservatives have professed to want all along, would survive much better than a society living only with the things liberals have professed to support.

I was not criticizing the piece at all. Just observing that America is a wonderful place to live simply because of our diversity.

Besides... I'm not moving because y'all can't get along. I think I do pretty damn good getting along with both conservatives and liberals. :D

I'd say in spite of our diversity. The diverse groups getting along is the exception to the rule, in terms of History-of-the-World frankly. People generally gravitate towards those like them.

We don't NEED total diversity. We need to be a melting pot again - not a salad.

If the country is divided, how will the left pay for their government? In the last 2 weeks we have seen where top Dems have a serious issue paying their fair share in taxes.
