This did not take long
$5 billion for ACORN
Money for illegals, and global warming
But less money for the US military, and money that may save innocent lives
Defense Official: Obama Calling for Defense Budget Cuts
Some overall budget figures are expected to be announced Monday.
The Obama administration has asked the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon's budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent -- about $55 billion -- a senior U.S. defense official tells FOX News.
Last year's defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend "burning the midnight oil" looking at ways to cut the budget -- looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said.
Some overall budget figures are expected to be announced Monday.
Obama met Friday at the White House with a small group of military advisers, including Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. James Cartwright, vice chairman, and Gen. Jim Jones, National Security Council chairman.

Well, if we're pulling out of Iraq, then we need less money. Also, many defense acquisition programs are arguably unnecessary.

The US will not be pulling out of Iraq any time soon.
But libs usually cut defense first anyway
Giving ACORN billions from the porkulusbill is way more important and worthwhile

I agree.
I will try to be fair, Obama needs the money to bail his brother out of jail.

Do you deny that significantly cutting back our expenditures in Iraq, along with cutting the fat that always resides in DoD budgets will be good for our budget problems?

Actually, Obama has gone to the Pentagon to speed up the withdrawal that is already scheduled for the end of 2011. So yes, we will be out of Iraq sometime soon.

Obama thinks we won't need any defense. The whole world just loves him!
How many good paying jobs will be lost because the defense budget gets cut?

Actually, the question is, how many overpaid DoD contractor positions will be lost because of this? The answer is, hopefully a lot.

your first remark is simply silly.
the second is interesting....would you advocate spending money on defense department contracts that did not actually make us appreciably safer simply because they give people a paycheck? Yet you seem to reject that same philosophy when it involves non-defense spending. can you explain that dichotomy?

If you want cuts let's start with Congress.
They need to cut their staff by half.
Drop the thermostats. (Obama turned his up of course)
Ditch private jets, the perks, the parties, the over the top security, anything that is over and above the bare bones to do the job.
Matter of fact, drop their salaries by 10%. Obama can cut his own salary, too. We're already paying for his rent, he can take the hit.
But we are talking common sense here - so libs go after the DoD

I don't have any problem, in theory, with these cuts. Do you have a problem with trimming the number of overpaid defense contractors?

If there is real waste - cut it
Obama appears to put Defense of the Nation into the "pork" category that he swore he'd not tolerate.
But he made alot of promises and he has already broken many of them
