This is a stark example of McCain's lack of integrity. He's willing to jeopardize the economic welfare of the country to help his campaign. He's putting politics before country.
The extraordinary session had been called after McCain's stunning announcement on Wednesday that he would suspend his campaign and would seek a delay in tonight's presidential debate to try to personally help steer through a deal on the bail-out. By midday yesterday, congressional leaders said they had reached the outlines of a deal.
But that optimism appeared to have dissipated after the White House meeting.
Democrats and Republicans said that prospects for a deal vanished after McCain had tried to prod his fellow Republicans in another direction. The breakdown cast new uncertainty over Friday night's presidential debate in Mississippi, as well as the future of the bail-out itself.

Fucking ego! Sorry to be vulgar but this is just bloody ego!
So is the debate still taking place tonight?
Also I have herd that the Presidents bail-out has failed, as reps have refused to follow the presidents lead and support the bill. So what now for america's bad debts?

If there's no debate tonight, or well, it's not the end of the world. They can treat it like a rain out and reschedule it.
As for the bail out, libs want it, rino's want it, Bush wants it. So is it really a good thing? Somehow I think the bail out is another step towards socialism. Why, if its so important, do they have to add riders?
The deviousness of washington has reared its ugly head and they are trying to fix it with....deviousness.

This is what happens when a party is controlled by the religious right. Romney would have looked so much better in this situation but being a Mormon he had no chance in the republican sect. That McPalin could actually lead this nation boggles the mind, she is downright silly, and he is so out of touch and flip flopping you need a score card to keep track.
A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote to continue the same economic policies that are destroying the middle class in America.

Chill guys, theres going to be a bail out, but hopefully on the backs of those that caused the problems in the first place instead of 100% taxpayer funded.

Yeah there will be a bail out. But it won't be on the backs of those that caused it.

If they had agreed on yesterdays proposal it would have been 100% taxpayer funded. Hopefully it can be written so that the free market will buy the paper and assume the debt with some kind of insurance from the government.

I agree. Its ludicrous that we have to pass something without debating it just to do something. What the hell does it matter if we do something if it screws us over.

I agree, better to slow this down. Paulson now seems to be to be in a panic.
I could be wrong. "If money isn't loosened up, this sucker could go down," Bush said, and that is a scary statement. And we had the biggest bank failure in history (Washington Mutual) last night, so one cannot say things are exactly going well.

McCain's appearance there was nothing more than a photo op.

Instead of bailing out these companies give the proposed 700 billion to the American people 18 and over, trust funds those younger. That will stimulate the economy. There won't be any need to insure loans then, there won't be any default on mortgages and it won't end up initially giving the government more even more power.
Somehow I think the bail out is another step towards socialism.
Absolutely correct Gaffer and all done under a Republican administration.

How did ACORN become a beneficiary to the bailout? Something is very rotten here. Links at site:

ACORN — NUTS! [Jack Fowler]
So a huge chunk of this proposed bailout is going to end up in the coffers of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now? Before you do anything else, check out this report - "ACORN's Hypocritical House of Cards: How One "Community" Group Helped the Housing Crisis Harm Taxpayers" — by the Consumers Rights League. Just two days ago James Terry, CRL's chief counsel, was testifying before Congress about ACORN's long record of widespread voter-registration fraud — is there any mischief of shakedown ACORN isn't into? CRL is all over this hyper-left outfit so beloved by Obama: you'll find additional charges of ACORN corruption here and here.
I just don't get it on the bailout plan. Our issues, and things that matter to conservatives — such as a capital gains tax cut, limited governmentt — are immediately scoffed at, and ruled non-starters, because of the enormity of the consequences the American economy faces. But this bailout seems to be developing into a lefty Christmas tree, and that's just something conservatives will just have to swallow. Unless ACORN gets sprinkled with this pixie dust, unless John Sweeny and his hugely overpaid labor buddies get their wish list adopted, we are going to have a depression? Stop the world, I want to get off.

Inside Obama’s Acorn
By their fruits ye shall know them.
By Stanley Kurtz
What if Barack Obama’s most important radical connection has been hiding in plain sight all along? Obama has had an intimate and long-term association with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (Acorn), the largest radical group in America. If I told you Obama had close ties with MoveOn.org or Code Pink, you’d know what I was talking about. Acorn is at least as radical as these better-known groups, arguably more so. Yet because Acorn works locally, in carefully selected urban areas, its national profile is lower. Acorn likes it that way. And so, I’d wager, does Barack Obama.
This is a story we’ve largely missed. While Obama’s Acorn connection has not gone entirely unreported, its depth, extent, and significance have been poorly understood. Typically, media background pieces note that, on behalf of Acorn, Obama and a team of Chicago attorneys won a 1995 suit forcing the state of Illinois to implement the federal “motor-voter” bill. In fact, Obama’s Acorn connection is far more extensive. In the few stories where Obama’s role as an Acorn “leadership trainer” is noted, or his seats on the boards of foundations that may have supported Acorn are discussed, there is little follow-up. Even these more extensive reports miss many aspects of Obama’s ties to Acorn....

He didn't bust nothing, in fact by all accounts he said nor did anything.

Tell your fellow Republican congressman not to be afraid to hold out for a good bail out program.....if the Democrats and the president are so eager to get a plan in place that they will vote for a bad one, then they will vote for a good one too.....

Better you should tell your Republican congressman to resign and withdraw from the coming election. Republicans caused this crisis. They're part of the problem not the solution.

The demwits, with help from the asshole voting public, have a majority in both the Senate and the House....... they don't need the Republicans, why are they not voting on their bullshit scheme. Paulson is deep up Obama's smelly ass, his people called obama to inform him what was happening with the bill, as he flew into Washington in his 757, burning 1200 gallons of jet fuel an hour.
This mess is a result of Carter and Clinton and their low life constituents lie, cheating and stealing.

Have the seen the democratic congress's approval rating 18%?????? They're lower than the Presidents, he's at 29%.
Even dems think they're doing a poor job.
In fact, Democrats are about as likely to approve of Congress as are Republicans: 20% of Republicans approve, versus 16% of Democrats.

How did Republicans cause this problem? Republican voters tend to be the most responsible people in the country, they pay their debts. You liberal idiots are the ones constantly looking for a handout and when Carter/Clinton gave it to you on a silver platter, you couldn't make the mortgage payments. This mess, like most associated with the government, rest solely on the weak ass shoulders of Democrats.

Only because Pelosi and Reid are allowing the Republicons to obstruct Congress. The approval rating would skyrocket if they'd grow spines and ignore the Republicons.

It will anyway, even if they get some of the Rs to vote for it they are still in the majority and it would not pass without them. Any legislation passed now, even the Bush/Obama plan, will be represented as the Democratic party's "fix".

It doesn't matter how much you spin, the reality is there. They hold the majority. Nothing will ever pass without their blessing. Shoot, nothing will ever hit the floor without it.

Since when does the truth matter to politicians? Americans have short memories... in ten years this will be Bush's fault with the help of John McCain. The "Bailout" will be the Republicans fault and even though Democrats voted for it and it passed because of the Democrats... it will be the Republicans fault... even if the vote ends up being completely along party lines.
