Joe Biden is a walking gaffe machine. Damn, I am glad Obama picked this demented loser as VP
Considering he does not redestribute HIS wealth to help the poor, why would anyone take him seriously?
Paying Taxes is Not Patriotism
By Jon Sanders
snip
Now this is a very strange definition of patriotism. True patriotism is not something that is demanded or coerced with the implicit threat of violence the way taxes are. Nations that demand acts of patriotism tend to be dictatorships. They also tend to be run by socialist blowhards, but that must be mere coincidence.
Biden is not discussing, after all, people giving more than they are required by way of taxation. He is most definitely talking about the government forcing people to pay more taxes, slapping it with the euphemism of patriotism.
Democrats are usually all about praising "dissent," but when someone dissents about paying higher taxes, they become fire-breathing jingoists of the first order.
Well, if it's "patriotism" to be quiet and allow the government to take even more of your family's livelihood and not even avail yourself of all the civic tools to fight a tax increase peacefully, would Biden consider a mugging "charitable giving"? If his home were burglarized, would Obama sigh gratefully that at last he's "given to the least of these my brethren"? Just how far would they go to redefine forceful taking as the cause of voluntary giving?

If its so patriotic then why not have everyone pay the same taxes?

Obama's pick of Biden shows how liberal and inexperienced he is. Only libs would link higher taxes to patriotism.
Are those who do not pay taxes - or compalin about high taxes traitors?

If paying taxes is patriotic our Founders are the least patriotic people in the world. After all they went to war over taxation.

What would that make me since I am opposed to tax increases - and want MORE TAX CUTS for all wage earners?

Thanks
I do hope Obama/Biden keeps telling us they will raise taxes. The last Dem to promise such was Walter Mondull in 1984

Biden's kind of a sweetie pie -- he's from a neighboring state to me -- but the strangest things come out of that man's mouth.

He is a tax and spend liberal like Obama. The more they open their mouths the more votes the Palin ticket will get
I want McCain and Palin to hit them on the lie the Dems will cut taxes on 95% of the taxpayers
It is a lie, and impossible to do

It's gross discrimination against the 5%, at least. What's so bad about being successful and doing well? I think it's pretty awful to discriminate against people who do well.
And of course it has been proven to drastically reduce both business prosperity and tax revenues, since these are the people who pay most of the taxes already and they will of course take evasive action.
I can remember when everybody rich was paying farmers to lose money on cattle and racehorses in my county ---- many, many people did that. To save on confiscatory taxes. What sense does that kind of thing make? Now they put it into business investments and the money multiplies throughout the society.
Losing money on cattle instead of producing goods and services? Darn, what a waste.

Revenues to the government increased each time taxes were cit. It happened for JFK, Reagan, and Pres Bush
Anytime you want to tax any activity Mundame - you have to encourage that activity
When you cut taxes, people work harder, companies expand and hire people, then you have more people working and paying taxes at the lower rate
Obama represents the second term of Carter. Same polices as the worst President in my lifetime

as you know my wife is canadian who gained her american citizenship. since she can vote this year, she is getting really interested in politics and the election. canadian politics are not like american politics, though we share a common founding country, if you will.
she asked me a question after coming home from a malibu party last weekend and the only answer i attempted to give her was: wait....no, actually she answered her own question, scratch that...she said:
guilt
the question:
why is it that when people get richer they tend to vote democrat?
i said not all rich people, but she said look at all the people in LA, it is fashionable to be rich and dem.
i don't have an answer, her answer seems the best so far, what would your answer be?

My thoughts are, as you make more money you have well paid accountants who can shield as much of your income as possible. Or you can be like Charlie Rangel and not pay your taxes at all
Also, the liberal white guilt factor. Why are they so "lucky" and have so much? So they are happy to hand over more to the government thinking they will help their pet causes
The tax increases Obama wants will hit people at all income levels. It will hit retired folks, workers with a 401K, companies will raise prices and lay off workers, and small business will take a hit
thanks for the reply RSR

do you support the fair tax idea that Mr. P supports? he has a link, i think it is fairtax.org....
on the other hand, this applies to all people who have wealth. then the people who have wealth really do not support support paying taxes, yet, why is it they support the dem platform as my wife asked?

Yes, I would love to see a flat tax where EVERYONE pays the same rate
People who are wealthy who vote Dem usually have a motive of getting a something "free" from the government. It could be "free" college for their kids - or "free" healthcare
I always want to remind people of how Obama's tax plan will hurt the very people they say it will help

So were new taxes, and ever increasing taxes
