This article shows the difference in the US and UK styles of government. In the UK, the prime minister is still an MP - Member of Parliament. He doesn't show as much individual thought in coming up with stands on issues, agendas, etc. He toes the party line, and speaks for the party. The American President, as a member only of the Executive Branch, and the Chief Executive at that, has a much different role. He (or she) is supposed to be the leader of the executive branch and carry out the nation's laws. He/she has a lot of decision making authority.
