I don't understand why the Dems are planning to spotlight Jimmy Carter at this week's nominating convention. How can the convention be about "unity" if there is an appearance by one of the worst presidents and most divisive figures of the last hundred years?
It would be like the Republicans talking about cleaning up government and then bringing out Ted Stevens.
Someone totally dropped the ball on this one.

Compared with Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2, Carter was a great president.

:lol::lol: You have got to be kidding. He gave the Panama Canal back to Panama (which WE built and maintained since being built) for the Chinese to basically run and over see it. What will Obama do, give back Texas and the southwest to Mexico??????:poke:

So?
Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2 favored privatizing public facilities. Why should you be concerned about the US government divesting itself of government property?

Ummm because jackass its the only SHORT way for the US navy to go from the Atlantic to the Pacific and vise versa.
If you want to give something back get rid of Puerto Rico since they receive a fair amount of funds and really don't give anything back....

Carter was both a moral and intelligent man and president. He inherited an economic mess that Nixon/Ford helped create and he had an oil embargo that created enormous troubles. His only bad decision was the Olympics idiocy. But calling him the worst when Cheney/Bush have done nothing right shows how powerful the conservative echo chamber is. Had they been able to get the people out of Iran earlier he probably would have been re-elected and America would not have started the war against the working people Reagan began.

Since you obviously weren't born until well after Reagan fixed all of the shit Carter broke, I can understand your complete and total ignorance. We all know how pathetic the public school system is so I'm sure you haven't covered anything but how to roll a condom on a banana at your junior high...... pathetic.

Why bring out Jimmy Carter?
Because some of the left-wingnuts currently running the Democrat party actually think he was a good president.
Looks like some of their soul brothers on this board think so, too. When a boat comes completely adrift from its moorings, no telling where it will go.

Internationally and within most educated circles even here in country, Jimmy Carter is the most well known and well respected American former president for a good number of reasons. Just his work with Habitat For Humanity deserves him the greatest accolades aver bestowed on any former president. Not to mention his work with the worldwide epidemics of AIDS, malaria, mal-nutrition, etc., etc.
The reichwingers have always faulted President Carter for the Panama Canal problem without ever recognizing that his decision was absolutely unavoidable and in compliance with the Panama Canal Treaty. President Carter had a more honest and responsible view on American adherence to our signed and sealed treaties than the current idiot in chief.
Any contribution that President Carter can make to the 2008 Democratic National Convention will be welcomed by all concerned with the success of it. It's no secret that many here would prefer a failure. Typical.

""I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history. The overt reversal of America's basic values as expressed by previous administrations, including those of George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon and others, has been the most disturbing to me," Carter said in a copyright story in Saturday's edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
"We now have endorsed the concept of pre-emptive war where we go to war with another nation militarily, even though our own security is not directly threatened, if we want to change the regime there or if we fear that some time in the future our security might be endangered. But that's been a radical departure from all previous administration policies."
Carter, who won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, criticized Bush for having "zero peace talks" in Israel. Carter also said the administration "abandoned or directly refuted" every negotiated nuclear arms agreement, as well as environmental efforts by other presidents.
Carter offered his harshest assessment for the White House's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, which helped religious charities receive $2.15 billion in federal grants in fiscal year 2005 alone.
"The policy from the White House has been to allocate funds to religious institutions, even those that channel those funds exclusively to their own particular group of believers in a particular religion. Those things in my opinion are quite disturbing," Carter said. "As a traditional Baptist, I've always believed in separation of church and state and honored that premise when I was president, and so have all other presidents, I might say, except this one.""

That echo chamber is the only Reagan, Bush1 and Bush2 had going for them. Without it, they're just three losers.

Not at all. I hope the Democrats are wildly successful at revealing to the American public exactly what they intend to do to the country: Hike taxes, punish the people who make money, negotiate with and appease our enemies, increase government spending, increase the burden of regulation, etc. etc.
That would be the best possible outcome of the Democrat convention. After all, it's already been decided who the nominee will be. What else have they to do, besides make plans for what an Obama presidency will do if elected?

Yeah, because the others are dead, Former President Bush doesnt really do much in his retirement and President Clinton.... well he's best known for a blow job. It's not like Carter is really competing with alot of people there.
However, i think you give him too much credit because there are many people who neither respect him nor see him as educated.

You really don't get it do you??? the cCinese will sometime in the near future decide that the US needs an attitude adjustment and in doing so will limit our military in ANY WAY possible. I know if I was running the show down there and had a beef with the US I would not allow ANY of thier ships to pass through. This will severly limit what can be transported by ship. It also give them a STRATEGIC location to the US.. But hey you go on living in your little rose colord world and hope for that socialistic/communist utopia you keep hoping for..... :slap:

Someone totally dropped the ball on this one.The far left love Jimmy and Obama's and Reid/Pelosi share his 1970's energy plan. They even like punishing big oil the same way Jimmy did that reduced domestic exploration and resulted in higher gas prices and increased dependence on foreign oil.
The far left support higher energy prices, Obama's only reservations was that he wished it hadn't happened so fast... he would much rather he be elected first and spin a little KY jelly that it will be a temporary situation while we transition alternatives.

And most treaties aren't worth the paper they are printed on!!!! If you had lived any kind of life YOU would know that.
Treaties only last until the first shot is fired!!!!!!!
Ohh by the way the FIRST treaty allows for the US to defend, however the 2nd one signed in 1978 has the responsibility for the defence of the canal left to the Panamanians. I will also note that at the time of the signing if the treaty was not ratified there were "terrorist" in place to sabotage the canal. So Mr. I'm soo fucking smart how are we to defend against somthing like that, if we don't have a military presence there???????

Fine. If you don't believe in treaties, what's the problem? Panama is America's back yard. What difference does it make who lawful ownership of the Canal. If America wants it, it will take it.

I never said I don't believe in treaties, but it only takes one Little nut to make them null and void. If you were a little older YOU might understand that.
With your reasoning do you really think that WHOEVER has control of the canal at the time possible hostilities take place would honestly leave it intact for us to use??? If you think so you are much dumber than I have ever given you credit for.....
