Here are the six things the democrats stand for according to their own website, and what they claim they are doing towards accomplishing these goals, I will talk specifically about whether i think they have met these goals later

I believe, if youre going to discuss, whether to support democrats, whether you agree or disagree with them, these links, will provide the best answers because it seems, these are the foundation to the policies they want to create. I havent rendered a judgment as to whether i agree with their approach or not, but i want to give a fair chance in this thread.

The 2008 demodrat platform will be put together at the dnc convention. For people like mfm to say they are for the platform is incorrect as it hasn't been written yet. He can only be for what he expects them to put in the platform. obamanation is writing it as he goes along. Besides selecting a candidate the convention also votes on a platform.

you are quite right... and when and if the democratic party platform ceases to encapsulate the vast majority of my personal political beliefs, I will stop being a registered democrat.

the democratic party platform has addressed the same basic issues for several years, and given my work on my local county committee, all indications are that the 2008 version will follow suit.

quit gratuitously insulting me.

country over party. If my party quits pursuing what is in the best interests of my country, I will quit my party.

As long as my party DOES pursue what I feel is in the best interests of my country, and as long as we are a two party system with power entrenched in those two parties, then my support of MY party IS my way of promoting what I think is best for MY country.

you are being, I think, purposely myopic about that. I do not, however, rule out the possibility that, rather than merely being obstinate for the sake of being argumentative, you might very well be too fucking dumb to understand that basic political truism. Time will tell, I guess, which option is more close to the truth.

were we prosperous during the Clinton administration? I would suggest that most folks would say we were.

and we are not arguing whether or not my party is right or not, we are arguing that believing in one party's platform versus the other makes one more or less patriotic or more or less an American than someone who believe in the OTHER party's platform.

but nonetheless, calling a cartoon a fact is a clear sign that you are, in fact, a moron.

And what have they done to these ends? If you have to look it up, then it isn't happening. There's a marked difference between what they say, and what they actuallly do. Sure, Obama talks an amazing game, I give him that one, but point to one thing, just one thing he has actually done that was a priority of his in this campaign? Well, he waffled on FISA, as we already know.

This is not to say that the Republicans are doing any better, to be clear, but this thread's about the Democratic platform.

My main issue with their platform is that it is born of a naive, if well meaning line of thought that the government can do better with an individual's life choices than the individual themselves. This, of course, fails time and again (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, No Child Left Behind, welfare, take your pick), but yet, it is always passed off, or put on "the other team's" shoulders, it's all "their" fault. Now, you're telling me honestly that in the past 30 years that, even when they had a majority, they could not get things into the shape they wanted? Well, if that's true then they are incompetant. They bragged so much in 06 about how much they would change when they got in, and what's changed? The weather.

When the Dems can find the balls to dig in and fight for their own beliefs, then, and only then will they begin to find their footing again.

my post is neither whining no any sort of temper tantrum. The crowd doesn't "like" me on here because I speak my mind and am not afraid to go up against packs of conservatives at once.

YOU don't like me because I expose the your vapor thin depth of knowledge about nearly everything upon which you pontificate....I expose your lazy posting style that relies nearly entirely on cut and past op-eds from newsbusters that you continually pawn off as "facts.... and I expose your latest lazy style modification where you post stupid cartoons instead of ever having to write anything....

You dislike me because every time you DO attempt to use your own words, you say something completely silly - like Iran and Al Qaeda will jointly rule Iraq against the will of the Iraqi people and then NEVER have the CLASS to either vigorously and intellectually defend your own words with more of your own words - or admit that you were caught blowing smoke out of your ass.

You don't like me because you KNOW I've got your number as an unintelligent hack who knows a precious little bit about a few things and tries to pawn himself off as a fucking expert on everything.

I don't like YOU because you are all those things and I find that pretty reprehensible behavior.:laugh2:

I outlined clearly why I do not like you - you are an obnoxious, overbearing, conceited, arrogant, sanctimonious jerk

Also, you have a serious problem admitting uou are wrong. You play the Clinton word games to wiggle off the hook

RSR has previously asserted that, the minute we leave, Iran and Al Qaeda will jointly take over Iraq and rule the country against the will of the Iraqi people. He has stated that Al Qaeda would run the Iraqi oil industry along with Iran and use the proceeds from the sale of oil to finance their worldwide terrorist operations. He has also said that, under that scenario, Al Qaeda would use all of Iraq as a giant terrorist training complex.

And if you have any links that detail any connection between Al Qaeda and Iran that would lay the groundwork for, or validate the existence of for such sunni/shiite nefarious cooperation, I would love to see them. Even McCain has corrected himself whenever he tried to suggest that Iran was aiding Al Qaeda in Iraq, when, in fact, the only groups that they are aiding in Iraq are shiite militias.

9/11 Commission Finds Ties Between al-Qaeda and Iran

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,664967,00.html

Al-Qaeda linked to operations from Iran
By Stephen Fidler in London

Published: July 6 2007 22:04 | Last updated: July 6 2007 22:04

Evidence that Iranian territory is being used as a base by al-Qaeda to help in terrorist operations in Iraq and elsewhere is growing, say western officials.

It is not clear how much the al-Qaeda operation, described by one official as a money and communications hub, is being tolerated or encouraged by the Iranian government, they said.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/9cc4d5f4-2be3-11dc-b498-000b5df10621.html

i don't think anyone truly knows the exact relationship between iran and AQ. to say there is no relationship is presumptious. you do not believe the enemy of my enemy applies, however, others do not share that view. also, iran probably has many levels in the government, in that, it would not be surprising if very high level iranians assisted AQ in order to further their goals. i would be loathe to dismiss any relationship and consider all possibilities so as not to be caught unaware.

American territory was used by a base of operations by Al Qaeda prior to 9/11. Are you suggesting that the American GOVERNMENT had any relationship with AQ?

If you think you are better than others or deserve special treatment because of your service to this country than you should never have served, because that is not why we do it. For someone who claims to be so smart, you don't know shit about serving this country.

Actually, to Muslims we are considered infidels. Personally, I would wear the term as a badge of honor. I didn't see MFM's statement about them being infidels, but I imagine it had something to do with how they are seen by the enemy.

{edit} having seen the above by MFM, it is exactly as I thought. His was not a slur on the American Soldier, but rather using the term as it would be used by a muslim. We are in fact, infidels according to Muslims. Something we should be proud of.

what about having American infidel troops on the ground in Iraq for some period of time longer than they have been do you think will cause sunnis and shiites in Iraq to NOT want to kill one another? Or is it all just crossing our fingers and holding on to that glimmer of hope that people that have hated each other for a millenium will miraculously agree to have a big group hug and create a multicultural jeffersonian democrachy simply because our troops have shown them the light?
