I'm sure there are some members here who have taken notice of the recent rise in knife assaults in Great Britain. Well, it appears as though there is at least one group in the country who would have knives banned, or at least severely curtail their availability, just as guns were.
Mothers Against Murder and Aggression (MAMAA) (http://www.mamaa.org/), a victims rights group in Jolly olde England is calling for the ouster of a judge after he exhibited a knife during a knife-crime trial.
It seems that a 16 year old boy is on trial for wounding someone with a knife. In his plea, he "denies wounding with intent and assault, had admitted using a knife and claimed he needed only one hand to open it."
Well, I guess the judge didn't buy the youth's story and decided to demonstrate, with what I would imagine is a similar knife, that it requires two hands to open such a blade. I suppose this would nullify the idea that the lad lacked intent.
Apparently the judge's actions have drawn the ire of MAMAA, particularly co-founder Lyn Costello who said, “Enough is enough – we need to get tough on knives in this country and our judges should be handing out tough sentences, not brandishing their own.”
