Eyesight going, hearing going and last night the wife and I went to knock a few tennis balls around and i'm trying to find air after 30 minutes lol. I started taking the fitness thing seriously only a few months ago, and at 47 I feel better than I did at 37. Happy birthday young man.

Thats why i'm knocking the tennis balls around, for a little cardio, never been one to like getting on a treadmill or any of that shit........................and limiting my cancer stick intake to drinking sessions.
I used to be a religious walker only on the golf course but now I find the next day I can hardly move my shins.

Well since you are late you can grant me a b-day gift that will cost you nothing.................................ban acts for shits and giggles. Well really it would be for the best of the board.

I used to be a religious walker only on the golf course but now I find the next day I can hardly move my shins. I ran the 1/4 mile in HS and was the fastest on the Varsity team, but I never could run any more than a half-mile- too fucking boring and I never had the mentality to cause myself physical pain. But I found myself getting winded hiking and skiing, so I made a commitment to get in shape.
I run on the treadmill at the Y 2 nights/ week, watch Fox News and put the headphones on, which really helps with the boredom. When I started out I would set the speed at 6mph (10 minute miles), run until it hurt, and then walk some, then run some more. I'd do that for a mile, then gradually increase the distance and decrease the amount of walking. I then bought a heart monitor, and when I get to 90% of maximum (about 160), I slow down to a fast walk and get the ticker down to 125 or so, then speed back up. Lately I've been running the entire mile- no walking, and two weeks ago I started running the last tenth at 8.5mph, which got my heart rate up to almost 100%. Last week I did 3.1 miles (5K) that way in 36 minutes. I want to get that down to 30 if I can.
The heart monitor was a great investment for me (about $150) because it lets me know when to slow down before lactic acid builds up and gives me that sick feeling. Over the last 6 months or so I have been able to increase my max heart rate to 178. The normal maximum is 220-age, which for me is 173. So that means that my "physical age" is 5 years younger. I’ve also lost 5 pounds and my wife keeps grabbing my ass so that’s a plus as well.
Sambuca, Anisette.
To quote Katt Williams: "Sambuca? That sounds like one of my African cousins from the home country!"
