GLOUCESTER, Mass. - A pact made by a group of teens to get pregnant and raise their babies together is at least partly behind a sudden spike in pregnancies at Gloucester High School, school officials said.
Principal Joseph Sullivan told Time magazine in a story published Wednesday that the girls confessed to making the pact after the school began investigating a rise in pregnancies that has left 17 girls at the school carrying a child. Normally, there are about four pregnancies a year at the school.
Sullivan told Time that nearly half of the expecting students, none over 16, were involved. Sullivan said students were coming to the school clinic multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and "seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were."
Some of the girls reacted to the news they were pregnant with high fives and plans for baby showers, Sullivan said. One of the fathers "is a 24-year-old homeless guy," Sullivan told the magazine.

Well a few midnight, 3am and 5am feedings will soon make these girls realize that this wasn't such a hot idea.

Gloucester is a predominantly conservative white community. Which is where they got those ideas. If you read the original story in the Boston Globe, most had little idea what pregnancy and having kids entailed. The girls just felt that "having kids will make their lives better."
There's your lack of sex education for you.

Man...do you post the crap or what....just pull this from between your asscheeks no doubt...

What are you trying to imply....'
This town is no more or less white that most towns of comparable size in Mass.
Conservative? How the hell do you know....??
This town happens to have 12% R voters and 28 % D voters....and 60% "unenrolled voters"
that makes it more than 2 to 1 Dem....and that usually translates to LIBERAL.....
So get your facts right before you post....

I thought Gloucester was heavily Portugese, esp. due to the fishing industry.

Again, we go with trying to figure out with PARTY to blame, when frankly, this was very a horrible decision made by a bunch of high school girls who have no clue what they've just signed up for.
Now, let me say this: No amount of education, group therapy, prayer, or government intervention will stop people from doing things that are blitheringly stupid. It's their right to fuck their lives up, which is mainly what this will accomplish.

This has nothing at all to do with sex education. These girls made a stupid packed and will now have to live with their poor decision.
Honestly I don't know how your husband can stand your tendency to try to blaim everything on republicans and our backwards childraising. Is he even going to be allowed to talk to your daughter??

The mayor of Gloucester and the superintendent of schools held a news conference today to deny all the allegations. The high school principal, who first revealed the "pact," was not present. The others stated that they felt "uncomfortable with him" and that "further information is needed."
In other words, a cover up is in order. Students at the school had little knowledge of the pact, but said it is something that could easily have happened. Parents felt the school district spends too much time trying to make problems "go away" rather than solve them.

So a bunch of Portuguese Republican fishermen's daughters made a pact to screw a bunch of homeless guys and bear their children?

That about describes Gabby's grasp of the matter.....the pertinent adjective being 'Republican'....
Amazing what 'open minded people' see as reasonable and factual....

They were. Back then, they were called "sluts," and not glorified for getting pregnant in groups before they could drive.
