I don't think the commercial is a "gay" thing. I think it is meant to evoke visions of the recognizable stereotypeof New York Deli guy. Casting the mom in the role of short order cook/sandwich maker. Instead of casting a woman or perhaps morphing a woman into the deli guy during the course of the ad, they chose this route.
