So my dad was working on some food and I was reading tonight and some woman was canvassing the neighborhood. She was some ACLU Democrat trying to get people to sign a petition to keep this one local company from moving out of the area. She was like 21-22.
She comes to the door and my dad answers and starts talking to her. And he is like, well if you want them to stay why dont you call your local leaders and talk to them about lowering the tax burden so that the local companies won't have to move.
She started ranting how it's all President Bush's fault that they are leaving and none of the local leaders help out (keep in mind that right now they are all Democrats). Yet somehow its all President Bush and John McCains fault. and im just listening to this and im like how the hell is John McCain responsible for the tax burden being too high on companies here.
Well my dad pointed that out to her and she just flipped out about tax cuts for the rich and saying how we need to stop being lazy like all the rest of Americans and get smart and sign her petition. Do something. And that just freaking pissed me off because no one calls my father, a man who has worked hard and sacrificed his entire life for my family and for others, lazy and stupid. Seriously, i was so pissed that if I had a shotgun I would have had it out telling her to get off the property for disrespecting my father like that. And believe me, I don't get mad that easily.
But he kept his cool and kept pointing out flaws in what she was doing until she got fed up and left. And he came in and was like "That was way fun." So Ive been laughing at it all night since I cooled down. And Im just thinking how incredibly stupid this woman is. Let's not even get to the fact that she is blaming Bush and McCain for local problems. Even on a non-partisan level she is a freaking idiot for thinking she can come around knocking on peoples doors insult them and expect them to turn around and sign her petition.
And then there is the petition itself. The petition wont do anything. So you get like thousands of signatures protesting the company moving. Its still going to move unless you actually get off your but and create some incentives for it to stay. And why they hell shouldnt they leave? What do you think is going to happen if you keep screwing people over and over? Why are you surprised they are going to get out of the situation? And then of course all she is trying to do with her petition is pull the already battered victim back for a bigger beating. That's sure going to make them stay.
I was just sitting here thinking "Holy crap! What the heck are people thinking nowadays?"
And that is why I freaking love my Father:)

She was most likely a lesbo anyway.
You're dad's a great man.
A few years back I was with my parents at Cape Cod about to cook dinner and this cute college age blonde knocks on the door for the Sierra Club. Of course my dad invites her in and she starts talking about the environment and wildlife and stuff. The huge pot of water strted to boil so he says "sorry to interupt you, but do you mind if I kill lobsters?"

My dad never flies off the handle like that. He is more of a debating type.
I remember being home during the summer in 2004 and having two young people coming to our house espousing the GOP ticket. My dad invited them in and started asking them questions.
My dad is an extremely intelligent man and is well versed on political issues. The two volunteers were more enthusiastic than learned
I am sure they left questioning themselves on more than a few issues.

Huh! The question I would need answered is, are taxes forcing the company to move or is it simply the fact Americans expect to live well enough to have food on the table, a nice house, and some future, and the company didn't like the idea of fair pay? This sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Maybe if this company had no need to pay some other cost, say healthcare, they would have stayed. I don't buy for a second companies leaving because of taxes, that's BS for voodoo economists. Where are the customers for this company? What do they produce? Give us the company name or a link so we can check this out.
Offshoring: The Next Industrial Revolution? By Alan S. Blinder
From Foreign Affairs, March/April 2006
Summary: Economists who insist that "offshore outsourcing" is just a routine extension of international trade are overlooking how major a transformation it will likely bring -- and how significant the consequences could be. The governments and societies of the developed world must start preparing, and fast.
Alan S. Blinder is Gordon S. Rentschler Memorial Professor of Economics at Princeton University. He served on the White House Council of Economic Advisers from 1993 to 1994 and as Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve from 1994 to 1996.
A CONTROVERSY RECONSIDERED
Their economics were basically sound: the well-known principle of comparative advantage implies that trade in new kinds of products will bring overall improvements in productivity and well-being. But Mankiw and his defenders underestimated both the importance of offshoring and its disruptive effect on wealthy countries. Sometimes a quantitative change is so large that it brings about qualitative changes, as offshoring likely will. We have so far barely seen the tip of the offshoring iceberg, the eventual dimensions of which may be staggering.

..... Maybe if this company had no need to pay some other cost, say healthcare, they would have stayed. .... You're an idiot douchebag. If the government takes over healthcare the company will still be paying for it- in taxes, and the costs will be higher and the quality crappy. Company A is not competing with Company B in the US, but Company C in China, which has no such requirement. Therefore your liberal plan will cause more jobs to go overseas.

Oh jeez, and here I thought the billions spent on the unnecessary Iraq war were coming from this country? You mean someone else is paying them and they aren't a tax. Wake up fool.

Companies arent required to pay for healthcare. Atleast not yet.
They are required to pay corporate taxes. They are required to pay minimum wage, which you liberals just increased. And somehow you are surprised that the costs must be too high.
My dad suggested getting laws passed to provide incentives to stay. the girl wouldnt hear of that because she didnt want the "rich" to benefit... Stop raping American companies and they wont be moving.

I'm sorry but I don't buy it unless making America a third world nation is a good thing. Corporations do very well but many see going south or leaving the country as ways to get around fair wages and good working conditions.

socialism is what will make America a third world country. You cant keep raping companies and expecting them to just stay there and take it up the butt more when they can go elsewhere safely.
