This is an example of what global warming is really all about - more government control over your life, and more government power

Moving Toward Energy Rationing
By Charles Krauthammer

snip

Just Monday, a British parliamentary committee proposed that every citizen be required to carry a carbon card that must be presented, under penalty of law, when buying gasoline, taking an airplane or using electricity. The card contains your yearly carbon ration to be drawn down with every purchase, every trip, every swipe.

There's no greater social power than the power to ration. And, other than rationing food, there is no greater instrument of social control than rationing energy, the currency of just about everything one does and uses in an advanced society.

So what does the global warming agnostic propose as an alternative? First, more research -- untainted and reliable -- to determine (a) whether the carbon footprint of man is or is not lost among the massive natural forces (from sunspot activity to ocean currents) that affect climate, and (b) if the human effect is indeed significant, whether the planetary climate system has the homeostatic mechanisms (like the feedback loops in the human body, for example) with which to compensate.

Second, reduce our carbon footprint in the interim by doing the doable, rather than the economically ruinous and socially destructive. The most obvious step is a major move to nuclear power, which to the atmosphere is the cleanest of the clean.

But your would-be masters have foreseen this contingency. The Church of the Environment promulgates secondary dogmas as well. One of these is a strict nuclear taboo.

Horrible. The government does not need to ration goods in a free market - prices will determine who is able to purchase the goods.

What do you think Obama has in store for us if he wins in November? He already said we can't heat/cool our homes to 72 degrees. We can't drive our SUV's and pickup trucks. We can't eat as much as we want

I'm not voting for Obama. And, BTW, John McCain is rationing your right to speak freely about political candidates.

I agree Jeff. No matter who wins, there will be a liberal in the WH in Jan

But will it be a liberal moonbat,(Obama) or a liberal pain in the ass?(McCain)

If things were so great why Did Pres Reagan kick Carter's and Mondale's ass in 2 elections?

If Peanut Carter's economy was the best time in your life, you should be on top the world in Pres Bush's economy

If Peanut Carter's economy was the best time in your life, you should be on top the world in Pres Bush's economyThat is the difference in economies. Bush's and rayguns was good for the rich, whereas Carters was good for the middle class. Now as for why raygun was so electable remember he was first an actor. And as such could say anything with a straight face. He did it to us in California, too.

So how did the middle class do so well with Peanut's double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, and near double digit unemployment?

Under Pres Reagan everyone who paid taxes got to keep more of their money. The top tax rate was an insane 70%

Because of the tax cuts the US economy enjoyed the greatest peace time expansion in history

Pres Reagan also brought down the Soviet Union without firing a shot

and Pres Reagan was relected with a 49 state landslide

Inflation makes money cheaper. Paying debt becomes less burdinsome. Raygun raised taxes more than you seem to know. The Soviet Union went bankrupt in Afghanistan just like we are in Iraq. Bush was elected twice also, doesn't say much for the intelligence of the American people.

Keep trying to put makeup on the pig. Liberalsim fails everytime, and lib will try to rewrite history to try and make it look good

It does say alot about your intelligence - or lack thereof

Isn't water rationing practiced on a municiple or state level? Is that good or bad, if it is - that is.
