I believe it is, in a little over 200 years, we have equal rights for men and women, whites and blacks. Individual free choice, and responsibility

Look at england, who set up the u.s., as its original colonies, how old are they?, and they had slavery for a very long time, look at africa, and the middle east, they are more like 10th world countries, with how pathetic they treat women, gays, and their fellow human being. Slavery still exists in africa, in the middle honor killings against women are still rampant.

How many european countries in less then 200 years had a womans movement, civil rights movement, and gay movement.

Europe still has blatant stupidity, racism, and lack of common sense, while we as americans, have fought for true, justice and the american way, and this isnt a liberal idea.

It was republicans NOT democrats who were the party of lincoln, who fought against slavery.

We are the most kind, philanthropist nation in the world

America haters, only like to obsess on our faults, but never acknowledge our triumps, and when compated with countries that are thousands of years old, europe asia, the middle east, i'd say were doing just fine :cheers2:

How equal are men and women in the US today, 2008, Martin? Do you deny there are wage discrepancies?

When did England have slavery? I'm not speaking of the Empire, but England. What do you see as the stupidity of Europe? Again, I'm not saying it isn't a justifiable position, just wondering upon what you are basing it.

Are you saying that Europe and America do not have 'honor killings'? Are you saying they actually are harsher than the Middle East in prosecuting them?

If one is making accusations, one better be prepared to back them up.

Well my dear kathianne, I do NOT deny wage discrepensies, and infact would like to see the wage discrepency end, their a lot of smart, talented women, that should make the same as a man, if they are doing the same job as a man.

I was commenting on the fact, that we have made progress in this issue, we have some work to do to make women fully equal, we are not there yet, but we have made progress[/B][/COLOR]

When did England have slavery?

I'm not sure if the country of england itself had slavery, i was talking about its colonies, which they owned

America does not have honor killings, unless it is done by muslims who have immigrated here. While the middle east, and europe, because of un-checked muslim immigration have had honor killings galore.

If one is making accusations, one better be prepared to back them up.

I do my best , and im honored to be challenged by smart people like you :salute:

I think we were an ethical nation. But modern American government has seen fit to screw its citizens, pass laws that empower those with the most powerful lobbyists and wage war for profit. While the rest of the civilized world has seen fit to invest in social policy to provide the best possible quality of life for its citizens, we've seen fit to widen the economic gaps in our country so now there are thousands without healthcare, we have one of the lowest life expectancies of any industrialized nation, we have one of the highest obesity rates, our educational standards have shrunk below the rest of the world and pretty soon half of America will be out of work because they can't afford the gas they need to drive there and they can't take public transport because we have no trains. :thumb:
Americuh! Yeah! We're the best country in the world! Whooo!

Thanks for the kudos Martin, that wasn't my point. Neither was the post I made, in the sense of making a real point. Hint, don't post on things you are not real sure of, or if you do, couch it in 'I think that based upon X, (that I know about), it seems reasonable to think y.

I'm going to have to take HCs stance here as well, that. Not so much for the rest of it.

The problem with the degree of liberty that we have in our country is that it requires more work from us than other countries need from their citizenry. Yes, we have our rights, second to none in that depart, but unlike others, we have responsibilities that go along with those rights. In recent we have been failing in those responisibilities.

We no longer even really react to a scandal, and for, I'd guess, 90%+ of us, the most we'll really do when these scandals hit is discuss it on here, or at some other forum, take whatever stance we feel is right, and move right along after that. We don't seem to get charged up anymore, we don't truly fight social injustices any longer.

If we want to reclaim our morals and ethics, then we need to step up as citizens

The USA may be a young country but the society is as old as those they have sprung from, it didn't evolve from ape colonies within the last 200 years.
England still has slaves in the form of Eastern Europeans working for minimum wage.

If you look at it that way, we have slaves too. Migrant and illegal-alien workers who work for below minimum wage.

which is why they should close the borders where the illegals are entering. The number of legals should be upped and green cards issued. Then there will not be the undermining of wages or exploitation of workers.

And why is it that it is taking so long for people to figure this out ??????? Our right hand is bending over backwards in guilt over how blacks were treated while the left is quite willing to rationalize paying illegals peanuts and even encouraging them to accept it.

If we drug them here and forced them to work, they would be slaves. Since they come over here of their own free will, violating numerous laws in the process, they are not slaves.

Shouldn't the question be, is America more ethical then the rest of the world?

I know---we lured them into a terrible trap and a few years from now after they have unionized in addition to consolidating their political power we shall hear the pitiful horror stories of what America did to them.
