"The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names." Chinese Proverb

Conservatism in a Nutshell

A man is lost in the woods and it starts snowing, off in the distance he sees a cabin. Slowly he makes his way only to find a locked gate, he rings the bell and a voice asks what he wants. He tells the voice his plight and is told by the voice that there is a church down the road and that they will pray for him.

Libertarianism in a Nutshell

The snow continues and growing more tired and cold, the man sees another cabin, struggling he barely makes it, he knocks and finally opens the door to warm himself. There is a full kettle of hot soup, he helps himself. Soon out of a back room comes a man, he scolds the man and tells him to leave as this is private property. The man stumbles out the door.

Liberalism in a Nutshell

Nearly exhausted the man sees a third cabin. Slowly he makes his way, opens the door and warms himself. There is soup in a kettle and he helps himself. From a back room a woman enters, she sits down next to him and they talk. He sleeps the night on the floor and the next morning goes on his way.

Okay, come on, how long have we been at this? How long now? I am so damned sick of this crap argument with you, really. Could you please not keep spitting on me? I have been completely reasonable with you, I have answered every point you've brought to the table, in calm reasonable language, free of insult. How much longer do we go at this before you quite slapping me and the others who aren't A-Holes?

Okay, come on....

You need to stop taking these excursions in ideas so seriously or personally.

"LAMB: What's the difference between a liberal and a conservative, in your opinion?

GALBRAITH: Well, I would say that most conservatives bend inward to think of their own interest and accommodate the state to their own interest and are, on the whole, more governed by ideology than I would think wise. As I say, I want to adjust to the practical situation. When I hear some of my conservative friends speak of the evils of government, I think they're being controlled by a formula rather than by specific thought. ' From Booknotes

The man eats his meal, provided by the conservative (from the food he thoughtfully saved for the winter) at gunpoint, and sleeps the night on bed provided by the libertarian (built by him and from his own bedroom) at gunpoint, and the next morning the liberal invites him to come back since there's plenty where all that came from.

(no apologies)

Fixed.

Um, I am a conservative Libertarian, so you managed insulting me twice this time. Stop putting up these crap insults with no foundation, and you won't be insulting good people. I've said it multiple times, when you decide to post this, you are insulting me, not only my belief structure, that you continue to misrepresent in a purposely ignorant way, but now also my attempts to be reasonable with you. How can you claim any enlightened stance, if you are unable to take any positive lesson from anything posted?

You may be right for a change.

Oh yes, I would have shot a man dead for nearly freezing to death. You do realize I volunteer through church? As a conservative, I am free to make the personal choice to help the man, I can choose to let him into my home, or choose not to, a church having nothing to do with, since, as we established already, Christianity is not a part of the conservative movement.

By your own scenarios, you have the man simply entering someone's home and taking their stuff, but yeah, I'm certain the first thing you would do when someone breaks in is sit down to hear their life story.

As for helping the man, I would, but that is my choice, and you no right at all to decide that for me.

Here in Texas, once it turns dark, if someone is foolish enough to come onto my property and try to come into my house, I can kill him dead and ask questions later........ as it should be. He would have probably been killed by a hungry predator before he showed up at my place...... animals tend to be ultra conservative and don't practice political correctness....... ever.

Liberal: You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful.
Instead of giving your neighbor one of your cows, you write to your congressman, demanding that he pass legislation for more government programs to help your neighbor get a cow. You hold a concert to raise awareness for the cow-lessness. Barbara Streisand sings for the cow-less, who couldn't attend because ticket prices are so expensive that only people with 3 or 4 cows can afford to attend. You wear a ribbon that signifies that you care about cowless people, even though you really haven't done anything to help them at all.

Conservative:
You have two cows.
Your neighbor has none.
You teach your neighbor how to work so he can buy his own cows.

Socialism: You have two cows. You keep one, but must give the other to your neighbor. You form a cooperative to tell him how to manage his cow.

Communism: You have two cows. The government takes both and provides you with milk. You must stand in line to get it. It is expensive and sour.

Fascism: You have two cows. The government takes both and sells you the milk.

Bureaucracies: You have two cows. The government takes them, shoots one, milks the other, pays you for the milk, and then pours it down the drain.

Dictatorship: You have two cows. The government takes both, then shoots you.

Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

California: You have two cows. The state tells you how to milk your cows, when to milk your cows, how much to milk your cows and the most that you can charge for the milk. You go broke and sell the cows. The state calls you greedy and blames you for the current milk shortage

Do you think maybe your aren't a conservative, but a left? right? leaning Christian centrist. The reply to this poor man entering a home is often he should be shot. And by conservative I mean the more social darwinist types who think life is a dog eat dog world.

THEN STOP SAYING ANY CONSERVATIVE, BECAUSE IT MEANS ANY CONSERVATIVE. Apologies for the all caps sentence, but you do not seem to be getting the point otherwise. Personal charity is quite allowable under conservatism, because personal charity is a personal choice that we are given. It ceases to be charity when the government forces you to do it automatically, with no regard to your own finances.

I am conservative, but yes, anyone who is my house who is not supposed to be there in the middle of the night going through my stuff is at the least getting hit with a bat (I'm sorry, I don't usually take time to ask the full social situation of the person breaking into my home. More usually, it would more of an, "Oh fuck! I'm getting robbed!").

A person should be scolded for breaking into another person's home, period.

Now, if you are going to write a thread about social darwinists, then that, again, is separate of liberalism and conservatism, hence the vastly different wording. You are going to keep hearing from me until you stop doing this thing where you keep blaming all conservatives for the issues of a few.

Now as to your thought process on this point:

Conservatism in a Nutshell

A man is lost in the woods and it starts snowing, off in the distance he sees a cabin. Slowly he makes his way only to find a locked door (sorry, we don't all live in gated communities), he rings the bell and a person asks what he wants. After he explains his plight, the person chooses, of his own will and right, with no government to tell him what to do, or how to go about it, to invite the man inside, breaking out some extra food (I've yet to have met a conservative that doesn't seem to stock his fridge with the thought that someday soon, the local Army reserve chow hall is going to break down, and need them dearly), and letting him go take a warm shower and shave, while he sets out an old, but serviceable set of clothes. Invited to sleep on the couch (sorry, no guest bedroom), they go into town the next morning to see about work for the man.

Libertarianism in a Nutshell

See above

Liberalism in a Nutshell

Nearly exhausted the man sees a third cabin. Slowly he makes his way, opens the door and warms himself. There is soup in a kettle and he helps himself. From a back room a woman enters, and, thanks to the government rules she must do, she sits down next to him and they talk. He sleeps the night on the floor, and the government says that is not allowable, that the person will have to provide a proper bed for the man. Unfortunately, he is without work, but since she has "extra space", obviously she can put him up for a while. The government rules that she must pay for him until such time as he stands on his own. Stuck on government assistance, the man feels bound, and never leaves.

Did you enjoy that re-write? No? You mean you don't enjoy insults to your belief system? But this is the exact same thing you do, how can it possibly not be the way you would want to be treated?

I've got a better parable. See, once upon a time, there was this dick...we'll call him Midcan, just as a reference, but anyway, there was this dick named Midcan. He lived in the northern United States, and during the summer, he pretty much dicked around at his job, sat around collecting a paycheck, and not even trying hard. That winter, at the start of the next economic downturn, Midcan, surprise, surprise, gets laid off, as he's the least productive employee at his job. Now, Midcan is forced to walk through the snow looking for handouts, since he also lost his house.

First, he comes to the house of a conservative. The conservative, believing that everyone should earn their own way, tells Midcan he'd be more than happy to give him a hot meal and a place to bed down for the night in return for shoveling the driveway. However, Midcan, being a lazy dick, turns him down and gets belligerent, forcing the conservative to threaten to defend himself with his Constitutionally protected firearms. The conservative doesn't want to hurt the guy, but this dick is demanding his property and threatening violence. Midcan grumbles as he walks away about the nerve of actually having to earn such fundamental rights as the food and shelter that somebody else worked and paid for.

Next, he comes to the house of a libertarian. That pretty much goes the same way, except the libertarian also decries the government education system for raising such a dunce as to believe he could not work and still hold a job.

Next, he comes to the house of the liberal. The liberal takes pity on the poor man and invites him inside. Upon hearing of Midcan's plight, the liberal promptly calls the government. Eager to gain the votes of both the liberal and lazy dicks like Midcan, the local politician sends in the LAW. At the behest of the liberal, the law seizes, at the point of a gun, both money and property from the conservative and the libertarian. Over half of it is pocketed by the liberal as an 'administrative expense,' a portion of it goes to paying law to take the money in the first place, and the last fraction goes to providing crappy housing and hot food to a guy who isn't even willing to work for it. The liberal then praises himself as charitable and decries the conservative and the libertarian as cold, heartless goons.

But that's not all. The conservative and the libertarian contribute to a local charity that heats the homes of the poor. However, their heating systems burn fossil fuels, so the liberal has the government use force to mandate replacing them with more expensive, less efficient methods. The charity has to drop half the homes off their list because they can't afford it any more. The liberal then praises himself for helping the environment.

But wait, there's one more. A criminal tries to mug the conservative at gunpoint (after all, aren't all conservatives rich and greedy?). The libertarian sees this and pulls his gun on the mugger. When the mugger turns around, the conservative pulls his gun. The liberal happens along this and decides to take action. The liberal takes the guns away from the conservative and the libertarian. As gunshots and screams ring out, the liberal praises himself for making the streets safer. During the murder trial, the liberal makes sure the gun is excluded because the warrant said 9mm when the gun was a 9mm magnum. The liberal pats himself on the back for being an advocate of defendants' rights.

As icing on the cake, the liberal shows up at the conservative and libertarian's funerals. As their families are grieving the loss and wondering how they'll live without the guy, the liberal takes a huge chunk of their stuff and either gives it to Midcan, who is now being paid not to work for reasons that, like with crop subsidies, conservatives and libertarians would be too stupid to understand, all the while griping about how whores like Paris Hilton shouldn't be allowed to have an inheritance at all, because the government is so much better at spending money.

Once again an absolutely instant classic post by Hobbit, can't rep you yet but I will when I can. Outstanding!

HAHA, who are you? I don't recognize the signature, I know most of my fans?

Here's one you haven't seen before, and don't tempt me or I may post more of my past work. But I do respect DragonStryk72, so I have to edit them. He is a conservative libertarian which for me is sort of an oxymoron but we can discuss that later.

No time to read some of the above today, being a busy hard working family oriented liberal I just don't have the time. But I'll check back and the little I looked through made me laugh so that is always a good thing. Laughter is a great thing.

Any moms or women who do mom things - Happy Mother's day, you good souls.

later, @&^%$(! - (that's the names I keep getting called so what the heck LOL)

I've got a better parable.

That was so full of stereotypical thinking and so long the poor parable reader went to sleep in the snow and decided death was better than listening to such mindless dribble.

Here's another good one.

"But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan [liberal], as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him. And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor unto him that fell among the thieves?

And he said, He that shewed mercy on him.

Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise."

Luke x, 29-37.

What a joke, your original parable wasnt full of stereotypes? Give me a break.

I dont think you understand what Christ is saying. Or else you wouldnt be a liberal. If you think that your obligation to serve others is fulfilled by making other people be compassionate through government force, then you are entirely mistaken about what the Gospel is teaching. The Gospel is teaching that we should voluntarily provide for the sick and the needy in our personally lives. Not that we should take money from other people by force. He wants us to give of ourselves. It's pretty easy to give away other peoples money. it be nice if you bothered giving of your own. Because giving away the money of others is not charity. Its Robbery.

A good quote, and one which you obviously ignored. Your "parables" are rife with partisan stereotyping which means you are NOT calling things by their right names.

Do yourself a favor child, and get an education. The embarrassment you prevent will most likely be your own.

I would state that the heart of libertarianism lies in conservatism. By limiting government, you conserve liberty, you conserve innovation, and you conserve resources that would otherwise be subject to government waste.

Don't really care about other forums, though. I mean, what you post here is what I've read, so I'm not too worried about it.

I think this is often the trouble with ideology tags of any sort. Many conservatives would disagree with you, some look at libertarianism as 'economic conservatism on top of social liberalism.'

Your post is old crap and nonsense....
but this one explains Dims to a tee....:coffee:

A Woman Married Three Times

A woman married three times walked into a bridal shop one day and told
the sales clerk that she was looking for a wedding gown for her fourth
wedding."

Of course, madam," replied the sales clerk, "exactly what type and color
dress are you looking for?"

The bride to be said: "A long frilly white dress with a veil."

The sales clerk hesitated a bit, then said, "Please don't take this the
wrong way, but gowns of that nature are considered more appropriate for
brides who are being married the first time - for those who are a bit
more innocent, if you know what I mean? Perhaps ivory or sky blue would
be nice?"

"Well," replied the customer, a little peeved at the clerk's directness,
"I can assure you that a white gown would be quite appropriate. Believe
it or not, despite all my marriages, I remain as innocent as a
first-time bride. You see, my first husband was so excited about our
wedding, he died as we were checking into our hotel. My second husband
and I got into such a terrible fight in the limo on our way to our
honeymoon that we had that wedding annulled immediately and never spoke
to each other again."

"What about your third husband?" asked the sales clerk.

"That one was a Democrat," said the woman, "and every night for four
years, he just sat on the edge of the bed and told me how good it was
going to be, but nothing ever happened."

That's not many, it's one. Just one more pundit who can only make themselves bigger by destroying others. Also, if you look to the responses to my post, most of the conservatives, at least here, agree. What is liberal about governing at the lowest level possible? How is allowing the people their own choice, their own way, anywhere close to Marxism?

Jefferson said, "He who governs best, governs least", and so far, all of his points about how government works have proven a fair bit accurate. People seem to believe that to help one another, they need the government there, when in truth, the morals and ethic of our government are decided by us.

That's not many, it's one.

Don't be so contrary, I know it is one but it is a sentiment I have read often. Libertarians tend to be social liberals and it is in that aspect that the differences show.
