A high priced college education at it's finest!

College Class Takes Field Trip To Brothel
PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) ― Nicki Amouri hands her camera to a friend, throws her arm over another and smiles wide as she leans in for a shot with the monument her class came to visit.

It's a typical field trip memento - except that Amouri is in a brothel. The monument is a fluffy, queen-sized bed in a Western-themed party room reserved for VIPs and big spenders.

Amouri was one of a dozen Randolph College students who toured the Chicken Ranch, a legal bordello in the desert 60 miles outside Las Vegas. Thursday's class trip, which included seminars from the working girls, capped a course on American consumption and "the ideas that consume us."

"I think it's fascinating, this is fun for me," said Amouri, a junior at the private liberal arts school in Lynchburg, Va., that until last year admitted only women. "Not many people get to do this."

Academic and media inquiries are daily occurrences at many of Nevada's 27 legal brothels. Some shy away from the scrutiny, others, like the Chicken Ranch, welcome the publicity.

You don't think an interesting field trip to interview members of the world's oldest profession in an upper level class on American consumption is worthwhile? It's something most of those girls would probably have never seen outside this class. Rare experiences aren't valuable?

You are not paying for this "esperience" If it was my kid wasting his/her time with this crap - the school would have one less student

This is an "experience" they kids can do without

Meanwhile colleges whine they need more money (our tax dollars) to make ends meet

What dodge? You didn't ask me anything. You were preaching. If you have more preaching to do then by all means, preach 'on. Otherwise, I'm trying to get to the bottom of why you'd think that this field trip offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience would be inappropriate for a specialized, upper level class on consumption.

Eh, it's one very small college out of how many colleges in the country? You can't judge the entire collegiate institution on the actions of one class. Even though lots and lots of people do.

Anyway, it's a legal establishment, I've never been to Vegas, but I would think a brothel would seem like a less-crazy thing to those who live in or around Vegas. I don't know, I guess Pale would be able to answer that one.

This is only one of many articles that cover what goes on in US colleges. Again, what educational value does this field trip provide

Meanwhile, we are told we need to pour more money into education

I thought all of your "points" were short-sighted so I ignored them to get to the root of what I percieved to be your problem with this whole thing, which is that for some reason you resent education. Why is that RSR?
I've already told you what this field trip's "value" is. It provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the students. 99 percent of them would never get to see and talk to prostitutes about their clientele/job outside of this class.
The only rebuttal you've offered is that it's "worthless" yet, as per the usual, you've offered no reason to back this assertion up. Therefore, as is also per the usual, it's nothing more than your vitreolic opinion. No doubt biased by something you heard on talk radio or read on the Drudge Report.

Either is theoretically justifiable in the right class. It's not as if these students were strapped into chairs and forced to watch anonymous johns copulate with hookers in front of them. You act as if they were. For a class on American consumption, they're also going to visit a casino. Hey, there's gambling there  That must make it worthless too. Ridiculous.

No RSR. I'm not like you so I can actually see more than one side of an issue. I'm not sure why a class on American consumption would go to any of these meetings, but sure, I'll bite. If a political science class, for instance, were to go to any of the examples you gave, any of them would be perfectly justified. Going to a brothel may be a tad unorthodox, but it's a perfectly legitimate stop if you're studying ideas about American consumption. It's memorable, there are interesting people there, it's a rare experience, etc.

i dont see a problem here. granted its probably a waste of money. but my guess is its much more unlikely people will take their education or carreer opportunities lightly by learning what some people do.

I think it would be similiar to taking your children to a medical ward to see the consequences of smoking. They see first hand the consequences of actions. Granted I don't think the brothel shows it as much as other scenarios. but it would be educational.

My look at this class, American consumption, says that this class is basically a study of America's addictions. I really can't think of a better place than Las Vegas, or better locations than a casino, or a brothel. I would say the same of a trip to the South American rainforests to study tropical wildlife.

Oh, I'm perfectly relaxed. If you notice I didn't use a single exclamation point in my last post :D
I don't think anything (within reason--this isn't an invitation to come up with the most outrageous example possible, like genocide) is inappropriate for college-level students. They're adults afterall. Every class begins with a syllabus that outlines the class to it's completion and every field trip that uses school funds would have to be ok'd by department heads. Someone else has already pointed out that the class covers the excesses of American consumption so places like brothels and casinos are perfect places for the class to visit and doing so in person adds a depth to the learning experience that can't be gained from simply reading a textbook.
I think the only grievance the naysayers have is that it's a brothel and I guess they all consider brothels to be "bad" so a field trip to learn about them must also be "bad." *hisssss* (like how a cat hisses) (then makes fingers into a cross as if warding-off a vampire)

Well this whole state is dedicated to gambling and prostitution, and it does quite well actually. We have no state income tax. How many states can claim that? And Nevada is one of the top vacation destinations in the world. How many states can say that? Actually a good looking hooker that manages her money can be a millionaire inside of three years. How many "legal" professions can you do that in? So as far as I'm concerned, yes, a field trip to a brothel and a casino could sure as hell be deemed appropriate when consumption is the topic. Somebody is spending a whole bunch of money here. Billions in fact. You might as well be aware of it.

Within the realm of sanity? I can't even hazard a guess as to what's roiling around in that head of yours, but I can't imagine that it could be realistic if you're having to ask this question. A brothel is a perfectly legal business in Nevada. It's also perfectly safe and it's perfectly applicable to a class on American consumption and vice. And to top off the triforce, all the students are past the age of consent and can go anywhere they please. I just don't see a problem here and I honestly can't see why you'd have one either.

Eh, but if the college wants to do a trip, that's fine too. Remember that there are probably more requirements to this than what is being shown in the article, which is obviously just playing up the oddity of it.

Trying to learn about human vice from a book, however well written, simply isn't enough. It is so much more than a stale set of facts and figures, which is what a college book would have made out of it. This put the lesson plan into real terms, much in the same basic way that tech colleges use building projects.

You know, I used to actually have to go uphill both ways to school? I always thought it was bullshit, but it really does happen. See, if the hill is directly between you and the school, and you are both at the bottom of the hill, then you must go uphill on the way to school, and then uphill again on the way home.

My daughter is in a private college. She just had a field trip in March to St. Croix. It was optional and cost extra $$. It's an archeology class, they spent a week excavating an old fort on the island attempting to find evidence to prove some group had occupied it (or some such thing). They were applying what they learned in class and putting it to use. I can deal with that. But a visit to a brothel for an 'American Consumption' class? Please, does that mean only 'Americans' consume sex? Did they learn anything in class they put to use on this trip?

It sends the message its ok

now, if people wanna go on their own accord, thats their issue

could u imagine if a college to a group of kids to a church

a dog eared fuck book replete with sticky pages, a jar of jergens, and a box of kleenex and YOU'RE all set, eh?

Pinocchio had a girlfriend and she was complaining about splinters. Pinocchio asked Gepeto what to do. Gepeto suggested he apply a little sandpaper to smooth it out. A while later, Gepeto asked Pinocchio how the girls were responding to the improvement...Pinocchio said, "Girls? Who needs girls? I got sandpaper!!"

This is only one of many articles that cover what goes on in US colleges. Again, what educational value does this field trip provide

Meanwhile, we are told we need to pour more money into education

Yeah education is stupid, lets cut off all funds for it!

I wish i'd have taken this class and went on this field trip.

RSR pull the stick out of your ass you prude.

I wonder if you would be so understanding if the class went to a NRA rally, a Right To Life convention, or to hear Jim Gilchrist the founder of Minute Men speak

Sure the minutemen would be awesome, they would get an up front audience with a crazed vigilante.

so textbooks are meaningless?

kids must rape, murder, and molest children to know whats thats like?

or maybe commit genocide against the sudanese in darfur, or work as a factory owner in china (slave labor)

which reminds me.... it would make sense if this was the bill clinton of technology instead of randolph college, then it would make sense their going to a whore house.. also ted kennedy would pick up the tab at the bar anyway.

Who the fuck are you kidding? You would have been first in line for this trip and would've known the layout and the girl lineup before even arriving.

But then again you wouldn't have been in college......no retards allowed.

No wonder test scores are dropping and kids in other countries are beating us.

How anyone can even attempt to justify this as an "educational" experience is adding to the decline of the educational level of our kids

*OCA wonders if RSR believes there should be seperate swimming pool times for the two sexes*

*OCA wonders if thats an oak or cherry stick stuck up RSR's ass*

OCA

Your guess?

How is a trip to a whore house an educational experience?

I can see if the kids were applying for jobs as Clinton interns, or aides for Ted Kennedy - other then that it was a waste of time

HC has already explained to you and did a damn good job of it...................your ideology blinds you to logic and common sense so you did not comprehend it.

Ahh then we have the good old RSR.............bashing women. Methinks that most of the gals in the sporting house are probably smarter than RSR.
