View Full Version : Oil/Gas taxes
Anyone know the breakdown ratio between cost/taxes on fuel pump prices? I tried to get my local government's tax at the pump, couldn't find it. But did find something that said the feds were at 18cents. I thought this was much higher.
Thanks.

shoot, you beat me to it hj!
thank you, i am not the most suave internet surfer.
so, it appears that taxes are 25% of the cost of our fuel. (my soon to be CPA wife pointed that out. i did this thread for her.)
i am interested in the "crude oil cost." it is not broken down into any category.

How Stuff Works is a great site for these types of questions. Kinda of like the Dummies books but on the internet and free. I use it frequently.

yes it is, on this chart: http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/margins/index.html

$2.51 is the crude oil cost including the oil company's profit, out of $3.60 retail gasoline price per gallon....
about 70% of the retail price of gasoline, is the crude oil margin.
