US F-16 accidentally bombs apartment complex in Tulsa

The mid-sized middle American city of Tulsa, Okla., isn't exactly known as a war zone.

So you can imagine Jeremy Isbell's surprise when he and his wife returned home Thursday night to find an errant military bomb had been dropped on their apartment, knocking out their electricity and part of the wall of their bathroom.

Isbell told the Tulsa World newspaper that he went outside to alert electric company employees, who were on the scene looking for the cause of the power outage.

Needless to say, federal authorities are also interested in the cause.

Accident, things happen, get over it. The misleading headline(purposely misleading)made it sound like a bomb was dropped on an apartment complex, if that was the case there would have been destruction of the complex. In actuality, a piece of metal fell from a plane.

A giant crane fell off of a skyscraper this week also. That too was an accident. Why didn't you report that? Whoopsy.

Things like this happen on occasion. I'm just happy nobody was injured. The BDU-33 is a very small practice bomb, we call them "Smurf Turds" because they are blue.

If it was an inadvertant release, the weapons flight will test the aircraft to figure out what was wrong. They will fix it. On most of these, the pilot hit the release button by accident, but they will never say that.

Yeah, somehow, I don't think the president was involved in either case. This is more of a, "Oh yeah, don't carry live ordinance over civilian populations outside of a warzone". Tulsa ain't exactly the front line.

We safely fly BDU-33's all over the world on a daily basis. This was an accident, most likely caused by the pilot hitting the weapons release (pickle) button. These are not live ordinance, they have a spotting charge. We also fly larger practice munitions all the time. Now if we were flying real explosives I would see your point, but we don't usually do that.
