Lockheed martin did a bang up job on this new plane, one of these days I would like to build up enough alpabet soup on the end of my name to work on projects like this, like PE, PhD. Lets just hope they can get enough built before all the F-15s fall apart.

Hey, hold on, I've seen the Russians do that stuff with Mig 29s...............I guess the difference is that the Russian pilots usually punch out a few minutes into the performance, right before the Mig explodes into the ground.:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:

Don't the 22's use Stealth Technology? I know they just retired the Stealth Fighters recently, which is a shame and a waste of good equipment.

You think he would cut funding for that? What about the new Ford class of Supercarriers?
I am sure the black book projects like skunk works are done for as well as bases like Area-51 and Area-52 which house these projects.

F-35's are not a replacement for the F-22. They are a replacement for the F-16 and A-10 in the AF, the F-18 in the Navy and the AV-8B in the USMC.

The F-35 appears to be a smaller, slightly more conventional, one-engine sibling of the sleeker, two-engine F-22 Raptor, and indeed, drew elements from it.

Totally different design because of its totally different mission. They do share some characteristics, but I think it is the next step in aircraft more thatsharing between the airframe manufacturing. I have a good friend on the weapons system testing team on the F-35 and he said it will be an awesome plane. But it will not be able to meet the F-22 as far as air to air combat, not designed to.

The key is, we are in control of our aircraft when we do the maneuvers, the Ruskies are in the process of crashing and are over-ging their aircraft to try to save them and their own lives. It is kinda like saying "I can drive 200 mps so I could be a Nascar driver".

The F-35 will be a fighter because it will carry air to air missiles, primarily for self defense. The same way the F-111 was a "fighter". It was not really a fighter, but the best strike aircraft we had at the time (my opinion, ever). The F-22 program was cut because of budget overruns and cost issues, and it will show to be a major mistake.

The Mig 29 is a pretty incredible air craft, and if you want to throw the stealth aspect in the russians face you better remember who developed stealth thory, guess what it was a russian, but there ignorant government did not clasify it hence we have stealth today, people who have an ego about how great our stuff is better remember where 60-80% of it came from, somewhere else, the germans were responsible for a vast majority of our military technology. We have alot of smart people in the US these days, some home grown some from abroad because we are a socially free nation at least until may of this year once we become a police state smart people will no longer want to be here we are about 2 elections away from being a facist nation, if mcain gets in that will be 1 election away, 2 terms with mcain will likely get us to a nazi style police state where you will always have to have your "papers" and search and seazure rules will be relaxed to a point they dont apply anymore. Life is still pretty good in the USA but once that starts to degrade also expect a dramatic degredation in our military because thoes schumck contractors that make everything you use and who are way smarter than you will leave and then the hard talk will come to an end unless of course the USA manages to capture and enslave thoes they need to maintain a technological war machine like germany did to prevent a brain drain never the less God will step in at that point and the USA will fall unless we make some dramtic changes NOW.

Never accused you if arguing. You are off a bit on the reasons for the purchase of the F-35. Back in the late 80's there were contests to design the replacement for the F-15 and later there was a design competition to replace the F-16 (not sure when). Our military had the forsight to know they would need to replace them. They ended up with the F-22 to replace the F-15, and the F-35 to replace the F-16. The reduction in the number of aircraft of both designs came because of cost overruns and budget constraints, not because of design issues.
As to the F-117, it was becoming cost innefective to maintain. Like the other aircraft of its era (late 1970). All good aircraft eventually end up there. Plus, an F-22 can get to the same target faster, more stealthier, and with a defensive air to air missile load (eliminating the need for support aircraft). The F-35 will have the same capabilities.
