All 6 BCS Computer polls, plus the Coaches, publish rankings after the season is over. For whatever stupid reason, the harris interactive does not. It is thus impossible to construct BCS rankings at the end of the year.Very lame, since IMO, the best way to do the NC would be to play it through exactly the way it is done right now, except have one more game between the #1 and #2 ranked teams AFTER the bowls are over. In 03/04, this would have resulted in a matchup between LSU and USC - who everyone knew were the 2 teams that should be playing for the NC, and a matchup between LSU and Georgia this year - the 2 obviously most deserving teams.

But one can construct an approximation of what such a ranking would look like. The Harris Interactive is usually extremely close to the Coach's poll, or at least, a lot closer to the Coach's poll than to the computer rankings. Thus, in my 'unofficial' Final BCS rankings for the 07 season I simply replace the Harris with another copy of the Coach's, thus weighting the Coach's twice and the computer component once. The results are, including all teams that either a) received votes in the coach's poll and/or b) were ranked 25 or higher in any of the computer polls, is:

1 LSU
2 Georgia
3 USC
4 Kansas
5 Missouri
6 West Virginia
7 Ohio State
8 Oklahoma
9 Virginia Tech
10 Texas
11 Tennessee
12 Boston College
13 Arizona State
14 Brigham Young
15 Auburn
16 Florida
17 Hawaii
18 Michigan
19 Oregon
20 Cincinnati
21 Illinois
22 Oregon State
23 Clemson
24 Wisconsin
25 Texas Tech
26 Penn State
27 Kentucky
28 South Florida
29 Virginia
30 Wake Forest
31 Mississippi St.
32 Boise State
33 Arkansas
34 Fresno State
35 Connecticut
36 California
37 Tulsa
38 UCF
39 Utah

Note LSU and Georgia finish 1 and 2. Were there a 'plus one' this would be the matchup, and what a game it would be. Note also that LSU beat #7 #9 #11 #15 #16 and #31. USC on the other hand beat #13 #21 #22 and #36. LSU clearly has accomplished more than USC, just look at their ranked opponents lined up against each other

#7 Ohio State v #13 Arizona St.
#9 Virginia Tech v #21 Illinois
#11 Tennessee v #22 Oregon State
#15 Auburn v #36 California
#16 Florida v unranked USC opponent
#31 Mississippi St. v unranked USC opponent

In this matchup, 5 out of 6 of LSU's opponents would beat USC's opponents.

So I don't want to hear any USC fans even think about pretending like you accomplished anything close to what LSU did this season, or that you even deserved a shot at the title. Sorry Notre Dame sucked this year.

OSU will suck next year, too, and you'll have two shitty opponents on your schedule. This is due to LSU Bowlitis, a common affliction in recent years. It is evidenced by the fact that out of the last 4 teams that LSU has beaten in a bowl game - Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, and Illinois, three of them have gone into death spirals in the season immediately following. Illinois is only now recovering. Oklahoma seems to be immune to it, and the Sooners are immune to a lot of things, for instance, winning national championship games. But any way, the point is that there's a 3 in 4 chance OSU's program will similarly death spiral next year, leaving USC with two shitty opponents, Notre Dame and OSU. Good luck with that.
